I'm a simple soul, as you well know.So I'm going to ask questions in a simple way, and request answers are framed in the same simple manner!

How can we ensure all new registrations have to be activated?

How can an Admin/Mod be notified (by email) when a new member has registered, and is awaiting activation?

How can I check a person's profile, and see their e-mail, names and contact details (to vet for spammers) BEFORE they are activated?

How do I create a page to click on, for all members to read ToS/Guidelines (requirement of registration), maybe on the forum homepage?
I obviously don't want to add/create a new forum, it has to be a 'reference page' on the main forum page....

what's an "IF Code"....?
You had to do some modifications on this website, to rectify some "Quote" anomalies.... could you explain what I should do because the same thing is happening on the forum I'm on....

(Thanks For [your] Continued Patience!)

This Admin CP is tedious to negotiate, in that every time I change the members register to "awaiting activation" and activate a member, the register reverts back to members. I have to keep remembering to change it to awaiting activation every time.

Also, There is a default message being sent out to members, which supposedly confirms their details.
Are we supposed to fill in the relevant details every time (in [brackets]?)

How can we change the default text permanently, instead of having to do it every time?

And I know from my own experience that this approval system is flawed:

The log in requests the member's e-mail - but the default text in that line, is my forum name!
When I was sent my password - it didn't work. Admin had to send me a brand new password, which I then had to go into my profile to change....

Is this a program glitch you're aware of, or something wrong with the programming of our site specifically?

help, guys!

TFCP!

InstantForum will fill out the fields for you.

All of the text in messages can be found and changed to suit your needs in the file resources.xml. Its located in the globalization folder.

Try the register process again letting InstantForum populate the messages that are sent out with a users credentials and then see where you are.

$64,000 Question:
Where is the globalization directory....??:blink:

2: Is there any way of being able to "mass-activate" all members currently awaiting activation?

The forum went live a month ago - and all members from a previous forum were transferred to this new forum - and there are about 400+.
So, all these members are awaiting activation!!

Have I truly got to go through every single one and activate them??

(I have now changed the registration settings to enable Admin to have to approve members individually from now on. before it was set to "Awaiting approval" - and they were able to enter and post anyway.
Now I have changed the criterion to Admin approval, I'm hoping they will enter the Awaiting approval queue visible (to Admin only) on the website.
Would I be right?)

the globalization directory is found in the InstantForum directory on your web server.

There is no way I know of to mass approve users.

I'm curious as to the answer to this question:

"How can an Admin/Mod be notified (by email) when a new member has registered, and is awaiting activation?"

Once upon a time I would get notifications that a new member has registered and I would log in to activate the account, now I do not get these reminders, and if I don't remember to check, these poor users just languish. Any settings I can check for notifications to admins?

Please note, I am new to instantforums and like many, have yet to read the documentation :-)

Hi There,

Good question. By default an email will be sent to the email address you define within the Admin CP > General Settings > Application Email field ONLY if you set the registration type within Admin CP > Login & Registration > Registration Type to Admin Approval.

If the registration type is set to "Confirmation Email" by default no email will be sent to administrators to approve the account. The account will only be approved once the user who registered clicks the unique validation link within the email the forum send them to validate the account.

You can add additional email addresses to the various emails that are sent from the forum. This may allow you to achieve what you require. All emails sent form the forum can be customized via the "Globalization\en-US\Emails.xml" file. If you open this up in NotePad you can modify the account activation email as shown below to send to additional email addresses as highlighted below.

This email is sent to all new members to activate the account if the registration type is set to confirmation email.

<email templateid="AccountActivation" priority="High">
<to>[RecipientEmailAddress]</to>
<from>[ApplicationEmailAddress]</from>
<cc></cc>
<bcc>youremail@yourcomany.com</bcc>
<subject>[ApplicationName] - Account Confirmation Required!</subject>
<body>Hi [RecipientUsername],

You will need to click the link below to activate your forum account...

[RecipientConfirmationURL]

You may need to manually copy &amp; paste the URL into the address bar of your browser if the text above is not linked. Please watch for the URL wrapping onto 2 lines.

If you lose this email you can request the validation email be resent at [PathsSendValidationCode]

Once you have activated your account by clicking the link above you can you can login at anytime by clicking the link below.

[PathsLoginURL]

If you forget your password you can have this resent to your email address at [PathsForgotPassword]

-----------------------------------------

[ApplicationName]
[ApplicationUrl]
</body>
</email>

I hope this helps point you in the right direction. If we can assist further please dont' hesitate to respond.

Hi There,

Great question. You can use the following SQL to move users out of the awaiting activation role and into the standard members role. I hope this helps...

BEGIN
DECLARE @userid int
DECLARE @newroleid int
SET @newroleid = (SELECT RoleID FROM InstantASP_Roles WHERE InstantASP_Roles.MemberRole = 1)

DECLARE MSGCURSOR CURSOR FOR
SELECT InstantASP_Users.UserID FROM InstantASP_Users WHERE PrimaryRoleID = (
SELECT RoleID FROM InstantASP_Roles WHERE InstantASP_Roles.ActivationRole = 1
)

OPEN MSGCURSOR
FETCH NEXT FROM MSGCURSOR INTO @userid

PRINT @userid
UPDATE InstantASP_Users SET
PrimaryRoleID = @newroleid
WHERE InstantASP_Users.UserID = @userid

-- add new role relationships
IF NOT EXISTS(SELECT UserID FROM InstantASP_UsersRoles WHERE UserID = @userid AND RoleID = @newroleid)
BEGIN
INSERT INTO InstantASP_UsersRoles
(UserID, RoleID) VALUES (IsNull(@userid,0), IsNull(@newroleid,0))
END

FETCH NEXT FROM MSGCURSOR INTO @userid

CLOSE MSGCURSOR
DEALLOCATE MSGCURSOR
END
GO

I hope this helps. If I can assist further please don't hesitate to respond,
