Hi there,We are about ready for purchasing the software now, and I gotta congratulate you on your new release which is lookin good. Couple of questions I want to ask. - The layout you have on your header as apposed to the layout on the release. Is this style available anywhere to use?
- Is the code for the latest posts ticker that you have from other pages available anywhere for use?
Other than that I really have no other questions. The product is excellent and can wait for my company to purchase the developer copy so I can delv deeper :)

Hi Sonic Effect,
Hope your very well. Welcome to our forums and thank you for your kind words. You've made my week :)
I attempted to answer your questions below. If I can provide any further information or assist with any other questions please don't hesitate to respond.
1. The layout you have on your header as apposed to the layout on the release. Is this style available anywhere to use?
I'm afraid this won't be included in the 2012 download however I would be happy to provide a copy of our "InstantASP" skin we use here so you can see how we've done this.
Our skin here is a little more completed than most skins. We have custom user controls with code-behind that are added to our skins files to present things like the dynamic login panel shown above.
If this would help please send me a quick email on ryan@instantasp.co.uk so I can respond to your directly.
I'll provide some basic guidance to help you get started. We are hoping in the near future to provie several different skins for 2012. One I suspect will losely be based off our own skin here.
2. Is the code for the latest posts ticker that you have from other pages available anywhere for use?
Please pop a note for this in your email also. We'll prepare an example for you. It would be nice to have a sample of how to-do this for others and so we'll be creating a knowledgebase article to help. Thankfully it's quite straightforward as we use a jQuery plug-in to provide the ticker effect. I'll get started on this sample in anticipation of your email.
Thank you again for your questions. I look forward to sending the skin and sample ASAP.
Kindest Regards,
Ryan Healey Founder and CTO

Hi Marc,
Hope your very well. Please find attached below a sample project which shows how to add a scroller / ticket for latest posts as used on our own community page at http://www.instantasp.co.uk/Community
You'll need to update the connection string within the web.config file to point to your InstantForum.NET database. This particular example uses the InstantForum.NET 2012 DLLs however the code within Defaultaspx.vb will also work with our InstantForum.NET 2010 DLLs.
You'll need to ensure you include the 2 jQuery JavaScript files and single CSS file from within the Site.Master file in your page. I'll respond to you shortly with regards to the skin. I hope this sample helps. If we can assist further please don't hesitate to respond.
Kindest Regards,
Ryan Healey Founder and CTO

Hi Marc, With regards to the skin please see below a version of the InstantASP skin that will be provided within the final 2012 download. This should allow you to use this as a starting point for further customization.
We want to include this skin as it demonstrates some nice customization possibilities through custom user controls within an InstantForum.NET skin. The user controls have there own code-behind as the server controls within the user controls are displayed dynamically depending on if the user is logged or not. |

Not many people realize you can actually include custom code in a InstantForum.NET skin. It's something we hope to document and provider further examples of in the near future. Thats excellent Ryan. I dont suppose you have a copy of this I could use at the moment on the RC to begin work on. I am aware I would have to transfer any customisations I make to the final release once it goes live.

Thanks Marc. Looking forward to posting more on 2012 very soon :)
It's been a little delayed due to an important issue when using the "Ban Member & Delete Posts" option as a forum moderator. We'll have this resolved over the weekend and expecting the final update on Monday. |
