I was checking my web stats and found these.  Any ideas on why and how I'm getting these 404 errors?

We have two customers who are reporting this same problem with accessing the forums. Both say their computers try to connect for some time, then they get a 404 error, page cannot be found. We cannot duplicate the problem. We have gone through the usual troubleshooting steps of asking them to turn off firewalls and make sure cookies are enabled. They still cannot connect. Any ideas?

Hi Michelle.  I have no idea where to begin on this since I can't replicate the issue.  I just noticed those links when I was looking at my stats and couldn't figure out why.

Dear MartialWeb,

It's a feature used InstantForum4.1.3 called URLRewriting.  URL rewriting is the process of intercepting an incoming Web request and automatically redirecting it to a different URL. For example:  The http://localhost/InstantForum413/Group1.aspx  go to http://localhost/InstantForum413/DisplayGroup.aspx?GroupID=1

For more details, please check the link below:

Hi!

I've fixed a group link problem by modifying ViewForumGroups.vb, line 192 to:

ctlPanelBar.NavigateUrl = InstantASP.InstantForum.Globals.Paths.Group(Forum.ForumID)

If you cannot recompile the solution, you can use the already-compiled dll file I've attached to this post.

I'm aware of URLRewriting... but that really doesn't address the 404 errors, since this is a "File Not Found" error.

Especially, with the .gif file.

"" EDIT ""

I just realized that you posted just before I did.  This fix was originally associated with the following problem (navigation linking) : http://support.instantasp.co.uk/Topic9986-37-1.aspx

But, I'm not experiencing this navigation link problem (and MartialWeb isn't either, I do believe).  If the 404 errors were stemming from the linking problem, I should be having them all the time & my navigation wouldn't work at all..   but my navigation is working fine (in a /forum installation)...  and the .gif file 404 error shouldn't be associated to the links either.

My forum is working just fine (on 4.1.2) but I'm getting these errors in my logs... I don't think the users are affected at all.  Is this the same with you, MartialWeb???

Am I missing something...  Am I not seeing the light... ?  LOL
