I was just attempting to add a new <InstantASP:RegExValidator> to my Registration form for my usernames so I can only allow regular english characters, and noticed that the email regular expression validator does not appear to be working correctly. I have already tested it on this forum too and it's not working correctly here either (check usersnames lancesh and lancesh2, one had an email address of asd and the other ...). Of course I didn't receive any confirmation email to properly register, but this is still a problem.

If you enter an invalid email address it will still allow the signup process to continue. This doesn't seem correct since there is a regexvalidator on the email address which doesn't appear to fire. This also poses another problem for me, meaning I can't use another regexevalidator to validate the username, as it won't fire.

Is this an already known bug?

Also, on another note, I have had a client request that standard english characters only can be used for usernames, as the software allows the signup of usernames which essentially look the same but aren't, for example you can enter "Greek Capital Letter Epsilon" which looks like an E. This could get irritating to moderate. Is there some process you already have set up to check usernames when they are registered?

Hi LanceH,

About the first problem, Which browser are you using?

About Greek Capital Letter Epsilon, you can do it using a simple regular expression check or we can do it as a customer service for you.

I'm using IE 6

How would you do this regex checking as a customer service for me? If you can, can you do this for me please!

Some sort of acknowledgement in my ticket would be nice!

"Yes we're looking into this" would be at least appreciated, rather than feeling like we're being ignored!

Any word on this?
