Hello,

I'm thinking of buying InstantForum.NET v4.1 End User License to integrate it in my asp.net c# fansite ( Site's PHP version is www.realmhistory.net and I'm currently rewriting it in ASP.NET ).

- I need is to be able to extend and share forum's users database on my entire site.
- I need to be able to add one or more columns in forum's users database table.
- I need to be able to add few more fields on the register page.
- I need to be able to integrate it in a Master Page as you can see I have done at http://www.realmhistory.net/forum/

Are all this things possible with InstantForum.NET v4.1 End User License ?

Also InstantForum.NET's code behind is wrote in c# or vb ?

Hi FaithRaven,
Unfortunately to make the modifications you want you would need a 4.1.4 developer license. Assuming it's just the one forum a single site developer liscence would be adequate.
All the code for the forum is written in VB.net.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, or email me on James (at) instantasp.co.uk

Thanks for the promt answer James Trott.

Only two more questions I have:
1. Is there any script or something like that to import forum data from a phpbb forum ?
2. If I buy a developer license, for how long I will have access to the future updates ?

Hi FaithRaven,
Currently you will receive free minor updates for all minor editions to the next major version release, although we will continue to support 4.1 when this eventually happens and a major release is not yet slated, so you should be updated for quite a while.

You would receive 90 days support via our ticketing system, you can optionally extend this at your discretion. You will also receive unlimited online support for bugs and minor issues through customer only areas on these forums.

Feel free to contact me again if you have any further enquiries.

Kindest Regards,

FaithRaven ...

If you're going to tweak up the code and database you should be aware that the code does change from version to version.

I'm still on 4.1.2 code because I made numerous "tweaks" to the code to fit in with the business logic for my site (i.e. Users can have multiple Nicknames and Avatars since we're a roleplaying site) and because of the numerous code changes from 4.1.2 to 4.1.4 it's not worth my time to make all my changes again. i.e. Templates seemed to change between 4.1.2 to 4.1.4 and would have been a LOT of work for me to upgrade.

The code is clean though and once you understand how Ryan built it it's fairly easy to work with.

Support does seem to be lacking but may have improved since I was last on the site a few months ago...

However, I do love InstantForum though .. made my life a lot easier as I didn't have to build my own forum from scratch and I'm VB .NET guy and most stuff out there is C# or PHP. There are some issues with WebTV and some older browsers which I'm working through myself... the view state is too big and I fixed that with a nifty component that saves view state on the server.. pages load a lot quicker now too.... but anyway.. my 2 cents.

No problem Ryan.. I've removed the quote I had in my post.

I'll be looking at my code to see if that's happening on my version and if I find the location I'll be sure to send you guys the info.

FYI. Tested the moderator issue on my site and it doesn't appear to be an issue.

Again, I'm basically running 4.1.2 code (with a lot of modifications) so it's probably an issue with 4.1.4 (and maybe 4.1.3)
