Error when uploading images

We're trying to create an article which contains 9 images concerning the same article. We create a subfolder in Uploads\Images folder containing that images. After insert 8 images succesfully we try to upload the 9th and the application doesn't answer... then Windows sends a message of low virtual memory and after another error Internet Explorer crashed.

First, we think this is cause the quantity of images allowed, but in another test we insert 12 images succesfully and in the 13th we found that error happens when you try to upload larger images (1024x768, full screen). The same error, the application doesn't answer... we check the task manager and saw the virtual memory size column at 1.6 GB on iexplore.exe.

After that the common Wink blue screen appears on Windows and the pc restarts automatically.

Application is running on development server Win 2003, 3GHz processor, 2 GB RAM.
PC for testing is WinXP, 1.7GHz processor, 512 MB RAM
