1)  Allow the user to type in the box while all the images are loading.  It's annoying to not be able to type right away, and must be a nightmare for dial-up users.

2)  Why does it force two carriage returns when pressing ENTER?  Also annoying.  I can't do a 2nd line without a space.

3)  Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but I don't see a way to NOT use the WYSIWYG editor.  Should be a link within the editor screen that lets you switch back and forth.

<smile>

Thanks!

You can create a single line space just as you can in a WYSIWYG like FrontPage by doing shift-enter.

4)  If you click "Quote", then click on the text box while the images are loading (See Item #1), the quotation never shows up in the text box.

Hmmm.  Thanks for the tip.  Maybe it's just me, but I would think the majority of forum users would be more familiar with the likes of MS Word than MS Frontpage.  To me, a carriage return should be just that.  If they want a double space, hit it twice.  <smile>

The double carriage return is actually a <P>... and the single carriage return is a <BR>.

I've seen some WYSIWYG editors that allow you to set what tag it uses, when hitting enter.

Maybe Ryan could pitch in here and let us know if this setting is possible, with this specific editor..

The default behavior is the double line as you noticed in this forum. You can customize it by trapping the key pressed and appending <br> rather than <p>. This usually is a pain to implement, but doable. Doing that way though would screw up the ordered and unordered lists when used.

Well, at first I was going to chime in and suggest that we don't hold up releasing 4.0 over the "smoothness" of the WYSIWYG editor, but then it dawned on me...Next to reading forums, users spend the most time typing in the WYSIWYG editor in order to post. I guess that means that the editor should be like liquid butter.

Out of all the forums I've used and posted with this WYSIWYG editor does seem to be a little on the slow side and doesn't act as friendly as others I've used. Perhaps this should get more priority?

I'm sure this is possible. It was something i was hoping would be included within v4.0 as it was requested several times within v3.4 but deadlines got the better. I'll have a look at this over the weekend.

Tim many thanks for your comments. I had the No-Cache HTTP Header setting enabled within the admin. I've now disabled this and the WYSIWYG should load virtually instantly once you've requested it a few times. Please let me know if the WYSIWYG seems quicker to load

Also Tim within your Control Panel you can tweak the WYSIWYG to only display basic editing options. This allows you to limit the toolbar options saving a little time on the image downloads

Hi Ryan,  the header buttons of the WYSIWYG editor are loading quickly... but for some reason,k the emoticons on the right & at the bottom of the page still download everytime (they don't seem to be caching in my browser)... and you cannot start typing in the editor until all downloading is complete.

Looks like a lot of these issues are resolved.  Nicely done.
