| Last week, our forum admin added 20 moderators to our forum. This had the effect of causing significant delays when new posts were made, as the software had to send 20 notification emails for each post. I told the admin that he should only assign one or two moderators to eliminate this problem. He then asked me a question I could not answer: what about subscribed members? If hundreds of forum members are subscribed, doesn't that mean that hundreds of emails are sent for each post? If so, do these emails get sent on the same thread as the post, or are they sent from a separate thread?

| Dear Andy, It would be wise to keep the number of moderators per forum to a minimum, for reasons you yourself stated. Common practice is to have a single moderator per forum, so that things don't get too slow or confusing. As for having hundreds of subscribed users affecting the performance of forum, it is a rare user that will subscribe to an entire forum, because of the number of notification emails he/she would receive. Most common is for users to subscribe to particular threads of interest, which wouldnt be posted as often as the forum that it is in, so this is not usually such big an issue.
 Kindest Regards,
John Tabor
