Is there any plan to allow settings to be changed in the "Application Settings" area, for things like maximum attachment file size?

Also interested to hear about some updates on the project.

Our company would definitely be interested in assiting in a beta test of this product, as a large part of our internal operations (more than one department) works around this software to a degree.

As for why we haven't heard an update in some time, being someone who works at an engineering/software/hardware company myself, I can say honestly that there could be a million dofferent reasons for not giving an update. Development cycles change over time, and so the feature-set might have changed, perhaps they are only a few weeks away from beta or official release and simply haven't had a chance to post an update, or whatever.

In any case, I'm look forward to v2.0!

I'd like to find out too. I've been tasked with exploring our recent purchase of InstantKB 1.3 with a view to adding Single Sign-On, and I'd love to be able to say that it's being added and released very shortly.

Hi htimsneb,

Yes, actually InstantKB1.3 works with SQL Server 2005. You just need to use the attached script file instead of use the original IKB1_3_freshinstall.sql file.

Is there a bug fix available for a problem I have been having for the last three months with Editing Articles.... as in previous post.

We have a knowledgebase that is useless if you need to edit the articles and I cannot seem to raise a reply from support.

You'll be pleased to hear we are still hoping InstantKB.NET v2.0 will be available within the next few months.

We have encountered the dreaded phenomenon of feature creep and had also a few other commitments which has unfortunately delayed InstantKB.NET v2.0. We are now expecting a public beta to be available around May and based on feedback received from this we'll be releasing as quickly as possible.

InstantKB.NET v2.0 will support .NET v2.0 and provide a bundle of other new features such has article work-flows, admin permissions, localization, ajax, tickets, statistics, downloads to name a few. If you would like to ensure you receive information when the beta is available please ensure the "Participate in product testing and beta programs" check-box is ticked within your My.InstantASP profile. We will be sending an email to this list with further information once available.

By my calculations we have about 3 weeks left in Q1 of 2006 - I would have expected to have heard something in the forums by now.

We haven't had any updates on the progress for 3 months. Can someone update us on what's going on? More than a year ago, Ryan posted the features that he planned to include in KB 2.0 but is this list still valid? Can we get an update on what will be included in this version and what will not? One of the things that is important to us is a better integration between KB and Forums. For instance, allow users to create only one account and access both application. Is this going to happen?

We bought KB almost 2 years ago andthere hasn't been any updates since so we are very anxious to get this update.

We purchased and intalled Forums since then and we find it to be an outstanding product. We just hope that the next version of KB will be just as nice!

Glad to see the recent updates on what is happening with KB.

We've had the product for a while and only now are just starting to use it in earnest. It currently does have some shortcomings which look like they'll be addressed. Overall it's a great product with lots of potential.

Eagerly looking forward to v2.0!!! Keep up the good work.

Not sure if this is already on the TODO list but encrypting the passwords in the DB would be good, at the moment its plain text, even MD5 hashing it would be something to deter "snoopers"...

v1.4 seems to have slipped again from May 2005 (promised in April) to September 2005 (promised in July and confirmed again at the start of September). It's now the start of November 2005 and there is still no sign.

As to v2.0 I expect that's due some time in the next millenium. As a KB user I certainly feel we're getting second class service to the Forum users.

Can the people at InstantASP at least keep this thread updated with revised timelines when things change? It doesn't inspire confidence when deadlines just keep passing without comment.

Hi All,

Unfortunately yes the recent work on InstantForum.NET has delayed our InstantKB.NET development. We have been working on some features InstantKB.NET in the background and hope to shortly make available our v1.4 release.

I've uploaded a demonstration of the tree-navigation we are hoping to implement within v1.4, this will provide a much more intuitive navigation system. This is NOT 100% complete, we would like to implement load-on-demand for large category sets.

This will also be completely customizable using a XSLT style sheet. An example can be viewed at http://demos.instantasp.co.uk/TreeView/TreeNodes.xslt

It will of course be completely cross-browser compatible. It currently works in Mozila based browsers and IE browsers. We will be adding support for browsers without scripting which will default back to server side postbacks.

We are expecting the InstantKB.NET v1.4 release during this month. After this time development will start full-time on the v2.0 release. Our v2.0 release will take advantage of the new InstantASP.Common namespaces introduced with InstantForum.NET v4.0.

InstantKB.NET v2.0 will also be developed side-by-side on .NET v2.0 and will be developed to be 100% compatible with .NET v2.0 from the start.

We developed the InstantASP.Common framework provided InstantForum.NET v4.x to manage user authentication, roles & other common functionality, this will hopefully speed development of our InstantKB.NET v2.0 release. We will also be taking advantage of our common framework to speed new product development.

InstantKB.NET customers have been very patient. Please be assured we are expecting a major release. I'm not able to offer an exact date however i would estimate if would be ready for release candidates within Q1 2006.

We have addressed the "?" problem by using URL rewriting and encoding the details that would normally follow the "?" within the page name. This will be available in the next major release.

Many thanks for your comments. We are hoping to apply the same skinning architecture that's in place for InstantForum.NET v4.0 to the next release of InstantKB.NET. This will allow completely different layouts & visual appearances for each skin and also provide developers with a Master Page template to easily wrap existing HTML around the skin.

Many of the features that can be seen within InstantForum.NET v4.0 such as data caching, url rewriting, skinning & localization are planned for the next InstantKB.NET release. The next InstantKB.NET release will also take advantage of our new shared authentication model so the forum, knowledge base & any future InstantASP applications can share all the same users and roles. We'll be keeping the forum updated with development progress,
