Automatically Creating/Logging In Users

Hello, I have purchased both your Forums, and KB software, and I’m very pleased with them. The forums are full of features, and were easy setup on my 2k3 Server.

We will be deploying this on a community site (written in asp.net), which requires a login to enter. Is it possible to have users of this site be automatically logged into the Forums? What has to be modified to do so?

Hi All .

I try to open InstantForum after I finish 4 step :

Step 1 : Installing The Files
Step 2 : Creating Your Database
Step 3 : Configuring IIS
Step 4 : Editing The Web.Config

I also set my email into InstantASP_ExceptionEmailAddress . And I got this message .

SQL query error updating 3.4 - 4.1.4

I'm trying to update an existing 3.4 database to then latest 4.1.4 version.
When running the very first update script (3.4_to_4.0.sql) I get the following error in the results windows.

An explicit DROP INDEX is not allowed on index 'InstantForum_Forums.PK_InstantForum_Forums_ForumID'. It is being used for PRIMARY KEY constraint enforcement.

Couldn't find anything in the forum or KB about this, hope someone can help me.

Error trying to Load Poject.

I had the project working and then broke it when I tried to move it to a subfolder under a parent project.

So I uninstalled the project and then reinstalled it.

Now I get this message when I try to load the project.

Visual Studio .net cannot create or open the application. The likeliest problem is that required components are not installed on the local Web server. Run visual stuidio .net setup and add the Web Development component.

My other projects still work. This is the only project having problems.

I did not buy the developers edition of the forums, just the standard edition.

Integrating a logon & changing code

Hello,

I am evaluating InstantForums Developer version and have a few questions.

I want to integrate the member list with an existing member list. After reading a few other posts it seems that I can update the database and also make some changes to the code.

If I make changes to to the code what will happen when a new version is released? Will I have to make the changes again? Is there any way to keep my changes more protected from version upgrades?

Also, is it possible that when my members logon to my main site they are automatically logged on to my forums? (I am guessing that I have to make code changes for this).

Unable to change code behind while compiling

Hi,

We are using vs2002 v7.0.x and .net framework 1.0. And v3.4 of instantforum end user version. Managed to install application on local machine and build it and execute. Now i want to add a footer table at end of each forum group. I modify the file groupcontrol.ascx.vb and recompile application but changes don't take affect. Where are we going wrong. Without going to v4 how can this be achieved?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Okay...forgive me for being a newbie doing this. I purchased this yesterday thinking that I could easily use it on my website. I have (or can have) a MS SQL database with my hosting service. I tried installing the InstantForum on my computer, then uploading the individual files...which didn't work. What am I either not doing or doing wrong?

Default.aspx forum page opens but no skin or images display.

Hey guys...

I just purchased a dev license and i'm having a few issues getting off the ground. I installed locally with no problems but after moving the forum to a production server and setting up the forum inside our intranet a problem has arose.

The main forum page (default.aspx) will open but it's all text. The skin and all the images do not appear. Most of the links aren't links just text also. Only "Member List", "Admin CP", and "Moderator CP" appear as links and not plain text. I've edited Web.config approprately, I think... Any Ideas?

I browsed to default page of forum. After that when i click on login i get the following exception. Please advice.

I very much liked your forums. i think it is much superior to the Microsoft's ASP.Net forum.

Before I finally buy your product, I had a very important question:

I am using a Portal framework to build my ASP.Net website (ex. DotNetNuke, Open-Point, IBUYSpy Portal etc.)

In my website, I want one of the modules to be InstantASP forums. Is your product designed to seamlessly integrate with these portal apps?

Buttons don't work

Hi,

I just installed your product and immediately noticed that the login button doesn't work. I saw the other post regarding with the same problem in this forums and tried both of the offered solutions and neither worked.

1. - Add AutoEventWireUp="True" to logon.ascx , it wasn't set to false prior because it wasn't present so I added it.

2. - Regenerated the client side script files via 'aspnet_regiis -ea', 'aspnet_regiis -c' . I wasn't able to do this on the machine itself since it's my hosts machine and I don't have direct access where I can run these commands on the machine so I ran them on my machine and copied the files over.

It should be noted that I installed the forums in a subdir of an existing frontpage web site so it's not in he direct root. Initially there were some problems so I adjusted the config file and copied the contents of bin to the root's bin folder in order to get it to do anything at all.

I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but perhaps.

One other thing, the button to change the skin works fine just he logon buton doesnt do anything

Build errors in VS.net

Our company has a instant message board version 3.4. I installed it and the default page opens up fine on the local machine. But when I try to build the application in VS.Net I get the following errors:

c:\inetpub\wwwroot\instantforum34\controls\profile.ascx.vb(51): Type 'InstantASP.InstantForum.Logic' is not defined.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Is anyone able to see the "Design and HTML" tab in the text editor? I'm using version 3.4 on Firefox 1.0.6.

Or does version 4.0 resolve this, or maybe I'm not suppose to see it in Firefox?

Problem with build

Hi, building the application for the first time (dev. ed.), we are getting the odd error "Value of type 'InstantASP.InstantForum.WebSite.Controls.RichTextEdit' cannot be converted to 'InstantASP.InstantForum.Controls.RichTextEdit'." Seems that everything is in order, but not sure what is going wrong. There are multiple errors that are the same, but they come from line 201 in the InstantForum.NET SourceFiles\RichyTextBox.vb file. The references seem to be correct throughout.

Problem Opening Project

Hi there

I have installed InstantForum v3.4 onto my machine. I have setup the databases on my remote MS SQL server. I can run the forum from my local machine http://localhost/instantforum34/ succesfully, errr.. well ish, there are a couple of issues that I am having trouble understanding but any way, the reason I am posting this time is because I am having trouble opening the project in VS 2003.

I open the project from web http://localhost/instantforum34 and the attached screen appears. I am guessing that it should look a little different to this, perhaps there should be some sort of layout here. Also I notice that there is a warning symbol on the InstantForumComponents reference.

I am sure this is all simple, but I would wrather seek advise than try and fumble through myself.

Error sending email to registered users

I have setup the instantforum34 on my windows 2003 server but when i edit the web.cfg file where it says <add key="InstantForum_SMTPServer" value=""/> i put in my smtp server ip followed by port something like this 10.0.0.10:25

also on the email setting - 
<add key="InstantForum_EmailAddress" value=""/> i put in the email address that is forums@blahblah.net and im getting errors when users try to register it says the email confirmation has been sent but no mail arrives ?

any ideas ?

Skin graphics not showing up on forum

I am integrating InstantForum 3.4 into a client website. In web config, the path to the skins is set correctly as follows -

In control header.ascx, I placed a debug statement on LoadImages and the path to the skins resolves correctly, i.e.

Line 191 header.ascx.vb = imgHome.ImageUrl = Session("InstantForum_Skin") & "navigation_home.gif"

and when run, the ImageURL property is

http://localhost/Arnco/skins/classic/navigation_home.gif

AND the file is indeed there - I can independently point a browser at that URL and see the graphic.

However, when I run the project the result is that all graphics are missing in the browser layout. I would imagine someone has run into this before. I can send the resultant html to anyone who is willing to look at this and help me with what I am sure is a stupid on my part. Many thanks in advance.

Images do not appear until a skin is set

Hi,

I have installed the instant forum 3.4 on my local machine and is working good. but i am facing a problem as i have installed it on remote machine. they are as follows

1) The images donut appear until i choose a theme and update the forum with that theme. i.e. when the page is loaded first time the "navigation_arrow.gif" has the path http://www.answersme.com/forum/navigation_arrow.gif and it doesn't appear. but when i update the forum with a skin, the image starts to appear. The URL for the forum is http://answersme.com/forum. as you can see from the url the forum is placed in sun directory, so i placed the bin folder and the web.config file in the root directory to get the namespaces and web.config to work. some keys for the web.config file are as follows

Confirmation email sending

Hi,
I bought an InstantForum34 for asp.net.
I have two problems.

The first one is the enrollment of new users: they do not receive the email containing the link for the enrollment confirmation.
I set my SMTP in the web.config, but, instead of sending the e-mails to the user, it only sends them to the address set in the web.config under the entry "InstantForum_EmailAddress".
I receive the following text:

The following message could not be delivered to xxxxx@xxxx.xxx. The mailbox maybe invalid or exceed it's maximum limit. Your SMTP server could also have a problem authenticating your server or the email address. If this problem persists please contact support@instantasp.co.uk

I think the problem is that I should authenticate the SMPT, by indicating user ID and password, but I cannot see where.

The second one is that when I open the forum, it does not populate the skins, so it does not allow me to choose them.
Has anyone any suggestions?

Greetings,

I have followed the installation instructions and have looked through the forums but am still having a little problem getting this app set up correctly.

I have :

1. Made a new site in iis.

2. Made a new virtual directory below it that points to the instantforum directory.

3. This virtual directory is set to be its own application root (rather then using default.)

4. I have set anonymous access only on both the parent site and the virtual directory.

4. I have set the paths in the webconfig file and set the db connection string to be localhost ;instantforum; sa ; **** (local copy of sql server).

When i connect the forum home page comes up : www.satyrical.com/instantforum

But if i log in as admin it takes me back to the home page but seems to be logged on as guest. When i click on any link the 'users online' count goes up but i don't have the admin cpl icon.

If i close the browser and open a new one and go back to the site, the correct homepage for admin is displayed with the admin cpl icon but i have a session timed out message.

I am sure it must be something simple and dumb that i am doing, but i would appreciate if anyone could give me the basic brief on IIS authentication type - SQL user - App settings that i need to get this running properly.

I have InstantForum34 running on my XP development platform under local host. I installed the MSI on the live server, then copied the c:\inetpub\Instant34\ directories to e:\inetput\instal34\ and edited the web.config file to reflect the http://www.mydomain.org/instantforum/ In IIS I added an alias for the domain pointing to e:/inetpub/instant34 and set web sharing on in the instant34 directory. With all this, I start the web page from the browser and get....

Installation...Internet Information Services?!?

I purchased the forum, and I received a zip file with a .MSI installer inside. However, when I tried to run it, I received a message saying I need to install "Internet Information Server." What is this? What do I get this from?

Installing MSI on D:/Inetpub/

WHen I run the MSI (InstantForumDev3.4.msi) by default installs on C:/Inetpub/. I need it to install on D:/Inetpub/. Is there a way to change the install, or should I just copy the directories over to the correct drive? Thanks.

أناديه وأصرخُ :
