Features List & AD integration

Apologies if this is a previously asked question (cant find in search)

Is there a comprehensive features list for 4.0 available? We have jsut purchased this product, but we will probably wait until 4.0 is fully released before installing it, but I'd like to go over the complete list of features.

Of particular interest, is the AD integration, as this is essential to our implementation. Can I have a run down on how it functions? For example, does it work with group authentication for sub-forums etc, how is it set up, technical aspects....etc

EMails not sending

I have a forum which is setup and is beginning to be used. However the confirmation emails are not being sent. Or if they are sent, are sent randomly and unpredicatably.

I checked the queue and there were 6 emails there waiting to be sent. After playing around with my SMTP server, ensuring that was working, and with the email settings, they randomly sent some minutes later.

I have since tried to send another email, and this email has now been waiting in the queue for upwards of 10 minutes.

It is obviously important to the operation of the forum that these emails get sent promptly, otherwise it's not possible for users to activate their accounts and begin using the forums.

Incidentally, I am using IIS as my SMTP server.

Any help or incite would be appreciated.

Search not retuning any results

So should the search functionality be working from the get go? I currently get no results when I preform searches. Eventhough I have created posts and I am searching for words that I know are within the posts. I'm not getting any errors but I never get any search results returned. Is there something special that I need to do to get the search functionality to work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm looking for a forum and knowledgebase, which can be integrated in Microsoft SharePoint 2007. I've been searching a long time to find a suitable solution, but didn't find one.

InstantASP is offering a forum and a knowledgebase, but has anybody included InstantKB and/or InstantForum as part of a Microsoft SharePoint 2007 site? So yes, how? :)

What's the status of any updates to InstantForum.NET?

When do you guys think we will see an update to the forum? I have not made any modifications to my forum because I was hoping that some of the suggestions myself and others have made would come out in a new version. Some of the things that I think would really make this forum work much better are:

1. Add the ability for the user (in their control panel) to have the options for subscriptions to forums (Topic Subscription Notification Type). For example, have it where they can always receive e-mail once they create or reply to a topic. Currently you have to remember to do that EACH time and it's crazy.

2. Ability to ban e-mail domains. With the disposable e-mail systems out there, it's too easy for someone to create a login and verify it. Banning domains would allow better control and not make it where admin approval was the only option.

3. Better browser support for Firefox and other browsers. (file upload, increase size of message box etc)

4. The PM system is a little hard for users to understand. Add the ability to permanently delete messages or move to deleted items.

That's just a few ideas.

Is there any way within the forum of being able to obtain information around how many posts were submitted on a weekly and monthly basis. I think this feature would be incredibly useful but after exploring the admin section I see no way of accessing this kind of info. Am i missing something?

I know the Terms and Conditions can be modified in the Resources.xml file. However I'm finding it difficult to find the Terms and Conditions link within the forum.

Also I'd like to know if these Terms and Conditions can be made more prevalent or a message containing special information can be made to appear at the top of all forums?

There must be a setting I'm missing to make the forum behave like yours.

I have IIS set to open Default.aspx, but every time I open the forum I get the Logon.aspx instead of being able to see the forums. I want the same behavior this forum has wher one needs to login to interact but can easily browse anonymously.

email notification with none moderated forums

we have a forum which is not public and only can be accessed by firsts an second level support teams. It is not possible for us to set the form to be at moderated level because on some reasons. However, the 2nd level needs to get any informations on changes to post. Is there a way in the app to send emails to the linked moderators even if the moderated state of the forum is set to "None". ?

Mod Queue - Searchoptions

Hi,

as far as I understand could the moderator use the search options in the mod queue to look for posts to be released which are waiting in the queue to be accepted.

We have no moderated forums, so the posts of the users don't have to be released by a moderator. When a moderator uses the search function in the mod queue he doesn't find any posts.

Is it possible to use the mod queue search as a normal search for the moderators (to search for all posts, not posts in moderated forums)?

Is it also possible to ban a user as a moderator?

Forum Table Width

I am having problems setting the width of my forum table - http://forum.thedisableddirectory.com/Default.aspx
My navigation table is set to 955px and I've tried to set the forum tables to the same width too, but unsuccesfully. I can make it wider but not narrower than 957px, which indicates to me that somewhere there is a control tha I've overlooked in the settings.

Having spent a day on it now, I can't see the wood for the trees, so a steer would be gratefully received.

Additionally, I am looking to decrease the gaps between the tables, so if anyone knows a quick way of achieving that, again I would be very happy.

Overall though, a great product.

Hello,

I've been a happy costumer of Instant Asp for a year or so. My forum system is installed at:

http://www.hplovecraft.es/foros

But in the last days I've experimented a very, very serious issue: it seems like all linkButtons have stopped working.Whenever I click a linkButton navigator throws this error:

Error: __doPostBack is not defined

This is affecting the 'logon' and 'registration' button of my forums (and other buttons too). So it's affecting my entire board system.

I've included links to logon.aspx and join.aspx using the wrapper but I need help.

Sorry...a stupid question.
How can I set a posted link to be redirected by a pop-up window (_blank) but not (_top)?
I can't find where to set in admin panel.

Change the clocks in IF 4.14 - the settings in Control Panel seem to make no difference with regard to DST - which means that all the times on the forum are one hour ahead at the moment - checking the checkbox "Observe Daylight Saving Time (If time appears an hour out, check or uncheck to suit)" has no effect whatsoever.

PS When is the next upgrade coming - last I heard from James and Ryan was Q3 after KB was out - I assume it has slipped again

Control Panel Errors

Whilst looking over my web-stats for yesterday, I can see there were 350 HTTP Response 500 (Internal Server Error) codes sent back to the client for the forum control panel page.

This is the number one error on my site. Now, I don't have any more information on these errors and haven't encountered it myself when using the forums, but I'll keep an eye on the logs to see if this is an every-day occurance.

1 - 500 Internal Server Error - /forums/ControlPanel.aspx - No Referrer - 350 instances

Does anyone else experience this?

Can I delete this file and set a limit on the log file size in SQL server? Or what do I do?

when an existing user logs in and chose to be anonymous, the Who's On page doesn't show the user's name. Great!

Here's the question: Is there a way for an anonymous login to post something anonymously? Say, a user wants to complain about something, but don't want his/her profile attached to that specific post and avoid members from knowing who posted it (except for Forum Admin)? I don't know if a feature like this exists in IF or any other forums but someone asked me if this is possible to encourage open communication without the fear of getting his/her *** kicked by other members :D

RSS Feed for All Forums?

I've got my own header & footer going on, so if there was one specified in the header, then I won't be seeing it, any help appreciated :)

"Who's On" - Not Clearing

My "Who's Online" list is not clearing itself. There are users from 12 hours ago still propagating the list.

High memory usage for the ASP.NET process

Hi All,

We've had a few reports from customers who are running InstantForum.NET in a multi-processor enviroment that the ASP.NET memory usage would continue to grow and not be released. We repilcated this locally. This could grow to around 200mb and only release after the process is recycled.

This only occurrs on mutli-processor servers (dual-quad etc).

After investigation during the v4.1.4 update we tracked this down to the garbage collector. This behavior occurs because the CLR uses the "Server" garbage collector on a multi-processor computer, which creates one heap per processor, consuming lots of memory.

To workaround this behavior, configure the CLR to use the "Workstation" garbage collector:

1. Open the Aspnet.config file in Notepad.exe. The file is located at %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Aspnet.config for .NET Framework 2.0 and at %SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Aspnet.config for .NET Framework 1.1.

2. In the <runtine> section, add <gcServer enabled="false"/>.

3. Save the Aspnet.config file.

This should greatly reduce the memory used by the ASP.NET process. I hope this helps a few customers.

Application unresponsive

Hello. Some who used to work here installed your product, InstantForum.NET v4.1.3. I don't know what kind of license or support we may own. In any case the product is being used in production and it becomes intermittently unresponsive. When it stops responding, if you login to the web server using an rdp session you can see you have established connections to the application from the output of netstat -an. However the end users just get an hour glass. If I stop and restart the forum web site from within IIS it seems to correct it. It could be minutes, it could be hours and it stops responding again.

Any suggestions?

Opening attachment error

Several users on our site that have experienced an unusual "redirect" when trying to open attachments within a thread. Instead of getting the dialog box to save or open, they instead get a new homepage that opens in a separate browser. I can open the attachment from the "Manage Attachments" control panel, but not in the forum.

Anyone else experience this? Fixes or work-arrounds welcomed.

No calendar entries showing in forum summary?

We've recently upgraded to v4.1.4 and have been populating the new calendar, and for a while no events showed in the forum summary on the forum homepage, then they appeared on their own, now they've gone again! There's definitely events coming up in the next ten days, so I don't understand it?

Is this a bug or something?

It seemed a bit non-intuitive to me that url's in posts had to be wrapped in IFCode tags to activate them as links; in my mind this should be done automatically by the forum, and was turning into quite a frustration for me, so I fixed this and thought I'd share the code with others here in case it might help someone.

Now, I'm no Regular Expression guru by any measure of the term, so after a few hours of trying to get a single replace statement to work on all possible cases of untagged URL's, I gave up and fudged the input text to make life easier for the pattern. If someone here is better at Regex's than me and can do it all in one, then please share! I got to the point where I couldn't be bothered to waste more time looking for a more elegant solution. I have other things to do...

Now, the difficulty came with trying to match url's like the following:
