"Error on page" if attempt to login, register, view Recent Posts or Popular Topics

Noticed the following issue happening on our forum this morning (I know these were working yesterday during the day as used all of them):

Environment:

InstantForum 4.1.4
Windows Server 2003
SP2
Latest patches applied last night
Server has been rebooted
Have restarted forum site and its application pool

Issue 1:
When go to our forum http://forum.ayanova.com and select Login in upper left hand corner, in the bottom left hand corner on the webpage it says "Error on page"
If I double-click that to see the details, it says

Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: http://forum.ayanova.com/Default.aspx

Note if I view an existing message, and select reply, it brings up the Login fields so that I can log in - but that's not something that regular users may think to do

Issue 2:

I have checked the Event Viewer on this system, no errors or warnings show.
All other actions via this forum show no issues, and behave as normal.

Please provide a solution to fix, or suggestions on what to troubleshoot as this is quite huge as my forum users can not log in or register to use.

Private Message bug?

I believe I've discovered a bug.

In the admin area, if you go into the permission set for say, forum members, and set the maximum number of recipients (for a private message) to zero, it's supposed to disable the limit...

But if you do set it to zero, it prevents you from sending a PM at all.

Just thought I'd let someone know...

Error Creating Control- MasterPage

I installed 414 using installshield and all went without errors.

I then opened the project in VS 2005 and migrated it using the vs wizard.

Now when I open the default.aspx ( or any aspx files) i get this error:

Users keep getting logged out

Hi everyone,

I have gotten quite a few reports that my visitors keep getting logged out shortly after they log in. I just check the remember me box when I log in and that seems to take care of the problem, but for people that don't want to do that, are often out of luck.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I have InstantForum.NET v4.1.4 . I upload this on my server,this are working but it still has some problem. Like
1) If we go for login and enter our login id and password then this redirect to home page without Login.
2} if we try to saw recent post then this show this error

Hello.

I am running the latest RC and trying our Bulk messages. I didn't quite understand the process and ended up hitting Send twice. However the mails are still going out - I reckon about eight times so far.

Sent another one out and did it all correctly and it has gone out at least twice.

How do i get them to stop? What did i do wrong?

Rich Text Editor Does Not Work In Firefox

It has just been pointed out to me by one of the users of my horshamforum.com that the Rich Text Editor does not work correctly when using Firefox.

If you highlight a block of text and them attempt to change the font the highlighting is removed and the code is pasted directly into the text editor. Also the pop up colour editor does not offer a palette but a box which (for the average user) very unhelpfully requests an HTML RGB value.

I have just confirmed these symptoms for myself.

Problem with User Registration page

Im getting the following message when a user tries to register on the forum:

You failed to provide all required information to complete registration. Your "Post Signature" is the only optional field. All other fields are required.

Ive tried everything, I just cant get the system to register a user successfully!

Its asif I missed a field that I should fill-in, but the registration form is completely filled in and correct, but I still seem to get this. Is this a bug?

What files, tables and stored procedures are typically called when executing user registration?

It as working for a month then it stopped working, now it only gives me the above error message.

Delete Skins

Hi all,

I've tried to delete skins, but I get this error:

A problem occurred whilst attempting to add your skin.This could be one of the following reasons...

• The ASPNET and / or NETWORKSERVICE windows account may not have permission to write or modify your skin directory.
• The skin directory may already exist, skins must be named uniquely.
• The skin name may contain illegal characters. This should be plain English.

The ASPNET and NETWORK SERVICE accounts have full control on the Skins-directory, but it doesn't help.

Carriage Return when HTML is disabled.

I have several users that are reporting issues with the carriage return when I had the HTML options disabled. I had them take screenshots of the reply window before and after posting, and sure enough the carriage returns disappear when they hit post. This stopped happening when I turned the HTML features back on. Just a little FYI. Thanks!

DNS Subdomain fails when clicking a Category link

We have our DNS set up to point requests to InstantForum.NET to a DNS Record:

When clicking on a Category link (e.g. group3) from the main page - InstantForum.NET fails because it try to open the following address:

http://www.mydomain.com/group3.aspx instead of the correct: http://www.mydomain.com/subdomain/groups3.aspx.

BUT when in a subforum of that specific group3 and clicking on the the group3-link near the top of the forum; "HOME >> Group3 >> Subforum", then everything works as designed.

Cannot remove initial "InstantForum.NET v4.1.3" category

I can't delete the initial "InstantForum.NET v4.1.3" category or its subforums nor can I rename it. The "Edit Category" link beside it in the control panel is a null link (void('');). If I delete it's subforums, any other forums I've created no longer show on the home page.

RC2 - Can't stay logged in

Ever since I installed RC2, I've been unable to stay logged in. If I log in and check the 'remember me' checkbox... and then sit idle for awhile, I get logged off.

Is this correct?

InstantForum 4.1 crashes with IE7

When using IE7 and I try to add a topic, Instant Forum v4.1 generates an exception.

I don't have the exact error here (I can get it if someone really needs it), but I traced it down to a line of code that supposes that the browser version is a number. My version of IE7 has a "b" in it (probably for "beta") which causes the unhandled exception to be generated.

You can try out IE7 either by installing the Windows Vista beta (you'll probably need MSDN for this), or by trying out the IE7 public beta:

I am attempting to recompile 4.1.3 (in .Net 1.1). The compilation works fine - my problem occurs when I attempt to strong name InstantForum.dll. When I add this to AssemblyInfo.vb:

I have a third party DLL that allows me to compress all HTML before it's sent back to the browser (gzip/deflate). I get over 80% compression this way, reducing our bandwidth utilisation considerably.

To use these compression libraries I have to strong name my bits. Their licensing model involves checking my public key.

In future versions of InstantForum could all DLLs be strong named? Thanks.

Admin: Editing Members Issue

Advanced Search Quirk

* Fill in a UserName and select a forum(s).
* Do not fill in a keyword
* Click Search

You will return to an advanced search page but it will only have the Keywords box available. No error warning or anything... IMO, it should perform the search without keywords because you have other criteria selected (i.e. UserName). It would be nice to be able to use Keyword, Username, or both in a search.

After further testing, the same issues occurs if neither of the top boxes are selected.

image resizing - mozilla

I require that all external images be resized and stored locally. I've made the required changed in the admin to the permissons sets.

This works fine when using the image button in the toolbar in IE. It brings up a dialog box that then downloads and resizes the external image. However if you put in IFCode such as [img]url goes here[/img] the download and resizing is bypassed...

So i resorted to turning off IFCode. In IE the image button still works and downloads/resizes the image.

In mozilla browsers (eg Firefox), clicking on the image button brings up a javascript dialog instead and putting in the url just inserts IFCode into the textbox. With IFCode turned off, this doesn't work. with IFCode turned on, it doesn't cause the image to be downloaded or resized...

It may not effect many people, but I for one surf with images off when on the notebook with a mobile connection due to data restrictions

I searched all InstantForum files for mardi, no success.

If I search all InstantForum files for monday I can see it exists in the Resources.xml file (in the section Days)..

Moderator Issues

I have already upgraded to 4.1 version. Some issues written bellow existed in 4.0 and some are new to 4.1.

1. If you disable Can mass delete topics? and Can mass delete posts? a moderator can not delete a post or a topic even if he has permissions to do that.

2. Can edit any topic? the text is simply gone, the tick box is still there.

3. When you go to Manage Moderator -> Edit Forum Moderator -> and deselect all the forums in Forum(s) to moderate list, effectively thinking of something like deleting the moderator functionality for that member -> after clicking Submit, you end up with that member being a moderator for all the forums.

4. All the settings are set to false each time you set-up a new moderator. It would be good if the application would remember your last moderator settings you had used.

View Secondary Member Group Members

When you click on the link "Members" (top forum menu) you get the list of all members.

At the bottom of the results page is a search box. Instead of "All Member Groups" you can also select a single member group to narrow a search to a group of members.

It seems this is working only on a Primary Member Group membership.

So If Joe Doe gas:

Primary Member Group - Forum Member
Secondary Member Groups - G1, G2, G2

then Joe Doe will only show up on "Forum Member" group list and never on a "G1", "G2"or "G3" group list - which is not the correct information about the user.

Actually we would very much like to have a possibility to display which user have access to which forums - for example when you are inside a forum a click on the member list should first give a list of all members who have access to that forum.

Use forum names as page title

In the Admin control panel, under Forum Settings... I have been setting "Use forum names as page title?" as NO. Then when I goto the site the next day it's set back to YES.

Just as a suggestion, it would be nice if you could get a combination of both... IE: InstantASP Community Forums - Bug Reports.

We have already upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1.

In version 4.0 we had a few own defined attachments: .ppt, .pps, .vsd.

After upgrading the Edit Attachment command produced crash.

The error was solved by deleting Attachment Types in Admin CP and recreating them again. Now it works fine.

RSS TTL (Time to Live) is always 20 minutes

I changed the TTL to 240 minutes (in the Admin CP -> Email & RSS Settings -> Cache RSS feeds for) and the tag <ttl> is always 20 minutes.

Also, is there is a way to have more options to increase this value, up to 1 day (1440 minutes)?

Can't change Forum Description

If you create a forum with a description, and then later go back and try and delete the description, when you hit submit the description returns. Updating the description works normally, just not deleting the whole thing. I tried deleting the text in both the Designa and HTML view so there are not any stray HTML tags causing this.

Default Time Zone

In the Admin CP -> Manage Settings -> General, there is a field to set "Default Time Zone", which is set in our case to: (GMT +1:00) Brussels, Copenhagen, Madrid, Paris.

Yet, in the user registration form the field "Choose Time Zone" points to: (GMT) Western Europe Time, London, Lisbon Casablanca.

This is a minor inconvenience.

RC5: RSS and get_UserAgent NullReferenceException

After upgrading to RC5 I started getting the error below emailed to me. I've got an external web app that uses the rss feed to display the 3 most recent posts to a given forum. My app still works and when I click on the RSS link in the error message below, I still see the expected RSS comment, so it appears this exception is being handled gracefully. Looks like it might be looking for browser info when there isn't any to be had.
