Help Embedding Google Adsense Between Posts

Hi,

Can you help me figure out how to add google adsense intween the posts for InstantForum.NET 4.x? I saw the instructions and I followed it to the T. However, I'm getting stuck at the part where it asks me to rebuild the Post.vb file. ???? How do I do that? I'm not a programmer nor do I have any experience in doing this. Ok, so i did some googling and issued the vbc command to compile the file but it gives me tons of errors and I don't know what dll I should create.

Can you assist me ?

We have a private forum, but want to provide anonymous RSS to the forum. I am trying to modify RssFeed.vb for authentication to automatically log in the user. ie:

This compiles just fine, but that line of code never gets called. I tested this by writing to a text file after that code, but nothing ever happens.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

Swedish translation

I will start this topic by posting my Swedish translation for Instant.ASP V4.1.4.

I have assigned this release a version number of 0.96 (updated 1 June 2008 from 0.95) since all text is translated as well as the wordlist but not the image buttons. There is now also a Swedish copy of the Classic skin (see replys below).

The included wordlist is extensive thanks to the fine work being performed at: http://www.dsso.se/

The license for the wordlist is specified as "Creative Commons Share Alike 1.0" and defined here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sa/1.0/

My translation is open for use and improvements by anyone. Feel free to add new and updated versions to this topic.

As far as I can tell the same goes for the wordlist but then it must be republished under the same license as above i.e. the Creative Commons license.

I have come across a potential bug (not sure if it is caused by the way I sort the wordlist or not) that causes the spellchecker in Instant.ASP not to recognise words that are in the wordlist as correct. Right now a word can be flagged as incorrect but among the suggestions the same word from the wordlist appears. Thus at the moment the wordlist is not much use until someone can find the solution to this problem.

To use the new language, just unpack the "se-SE" folder into the "Globalization" folder next to the "en-US" folder that is there by default.

We have lots of forums (well, probably over 100) and I'd like the forum to be more "compact" so that people don't have to scroll down so far.
My thought was to decrease the font size of the forum titles and the space around each.

SOLVED Firefox (IFCode) text editor DDLs not working

for those of you who want to get the existing IFCode font and size menus working (without going to FCKEditor):

The solution is to update the code for these boxes in RichTextBox.vb

for instance, in [b]Public Function InsertFontDropDownList()[/b]

Where it says
[code]onchange=""if_InsertIFCode('[font=' + this[this.selectedIndex].value + ']'[/code]
substitute
[code]onchange=""if_InsertIFCode('[font="' + this[this.selectedIndex].value + '"]'[/code]
adding the quotes, as htmlencode, will cause the quotes to appear in the editor box, thus causing the regex replace to work.

We have a fairly straight forward website and would like to see if anyone is interested in skinning the InstantKB/Forum applications to be completely integrated in to our site.

The page we would like skinned around is http://www.velaro.com/chat-overview.asp All the top menus, fonts, graphics, layout, etc to match this page exactly, the only difference is we would like the main section of the page to contain the Instant applications. The left sidebar can be removed as well.

I running version 4.1.4 of the forum software and am planning to change the text editor in the coming days. I'd like to do this to improve support for more browsers across different platforms.

I would imagine that this is not too difficult as it would probably just involve removing the current text editor component and replacing it with the new one. I just wanted to ask if anyone has done this before and how they went about it? Maybe someone from InstantASP could also provide some tips as to where to look in the source code and what to replace. Also what kind of license would i need to be able to do this?

I don't suppose anyone knows why the light blue buttons don't 'work' in IE7. Everything OK in Firefox, but in IE nothing happens when clicking on the buttons.

On my forum, I get a lot of Captains who post reports and so on. It would be great if I could give them a way to link from their websites to their posts on the forum. This would act a a blog in a way for them and it would be a great way for them to get link popularity to their website and to generate business.

Since it looks like all the "View Posts from this member" are triggered using javascript on the pages, there is no way for them to find a link and paste it on there website. Does anyone know of a way that I can tell the members of the forum to use a link like http://www.pensacolafishingforum.com/fishingforum/memberposts.aspx?memberid=343?

Remove Registration Details link from Control Panel

As the title suggests I want to remove the Registration Details link from the users Control Panel as I'm handling registration through the main website.

I found a way how I could remove the whole Your Profile section but can't seem to find how to remove just the Registration Details link from this section?

VS2005 and Masterpages

Ok, as Im getting into 4.1.3 and there are skin adjustments I had decided Id work on a new skin in brown tones. What I like to do is screenshot the forum and then bring it into Photoshop and then adjust the different colors until I get what I like, then I can pick the colors and grab the hex value and edit the css file as needed.

While I was doing this I got a little zealous and spent the greater part of 4 7 hours just building out this PSD file.

What I have Im making available to you in hopes it can help others.

Inside the PSD Ive broken out all the forum elements and ~~tried to group them by location~~ [Update: Now grouped according to thier css class]. ~~I debated doing it by color and I still might go through and name the groups by the CSS names which might then help everyone even further but for now~~. [Did it] this is what I have.

When you open it you'll have the layers [now named thier css class name] and all non text layers are just a fill color for the whole layer and Ive used a layer mask to fill the right areas. The nice part about this is all you have to do is FILL a layer and each layer is clearly a color which helps with identification.

Near the top of the layers is a HUE CHANGER layer, if you'd like to color shift the entire board look (quickly create the same look but in a different color) you can turn this on and adjust the sliders to whatever you see fit.

I'll be continuing to work on this as I do my own skins so it will likely be updated here and there as I find ways to make it easier... one thing I'll include soon are layers for all the other icons and elements from other pages. For now, this should get you started.

[Update: Major wiped out as its just after 1:30am but hell, this thing should help some of you skinners I hope. The new file has been uploaded over the old but I dont think anyone got to it before I updated anyway.]

Server.Transfer based on Session variable

I have a site running at www.mysite.com with the forum at www.mysite.com\forum

I want to lock out the default forum page until the user is signed in on our main page. When the user logs in, a session variable is set. I want to check for this session variable when the forum loads and if its not set properly, I want to redirect the user to the login page on the main site.

Where would I put this type of code? Usually I would use a pageload event but I'm unfamiliar with the instantforum code structure.

Whitespace after customisation

Skinning: Developing looks for your IF 4

Figured since a few of us are obviously digging into the CSS and master pages that we should get going on chatting about it.

I just created my first real skin for 4 (RC1) and while its still being tweaked as I find things its not too bad and my users like it.

The basis was using Federal Standard Colors for military to create an ARMY Green version as the default.

My intention is to create service oriented ones for Air Force, Marines and Navy... maybe even a desert version of course. Makes for a good selling point since only paid subscribers can change the skins so having a few available is a nice selling point.

I have a dark skin and use WHITE as the text color.. works well until I looked at the imput rich text box and noticed that the links for IFCode and MORE (under smilies) disappeared visually.

Just wanted to let people know to make your modification to .RichTextBoxLinks within style.css for your skin!

First, I love this software. Now that that is out of the way. One big disappointment is "skins".

When you say your software is skinnable, the typical meaning is it's easy to do. I find nothing easy about changing the skins in this forum. There are complications with deleting skins, creating them, changing them......

Is it only me? Did I miss a manual somewhere? I've found various posts which describe some aspects of skinning the forum, but nothing "official", or even a step by step....nothing...

If I've missed it, please point me in the right direction.

Disabling Logon, Logoff, Registration Pages

Ok, because I've created my own register and logon pages I need to be able to disable the Logon, Logoff and registration buttons/Pages.

I haven't been able to find a way to do this. Can anyone help?

The way I see things is

Option 1)

remove the buttons

Option 2)

Leave the buttons but have the pages just redirect to my pages.

If anyone can help me with either of these that would be greatly appreciated.

(I don't mind hacking code if thats what it takes).

Is it possible to include the username of the user viewing the page into a post, i.e.

so that if for example I read the post it would say

It would allow other user generated sites to easly validate logins so that they can provide related services and widen the community

Different IFCode

The IFCode used by 'Instant' for lets say color is:

on some other forums they use

Hi All,

I just purchased the software last night. I got it up and running no problem. excellent job with the manual instructions guys!

Anyway, I have candypress shopping cart as an ecommerce platform and I am wanting to have the following in order of priority. Was wondering time involved and if their was specific information that tells what I need to touch.

I searched the web and looked at the stored procedures and am hoping that their must be a place that talks about this.

Use my table (customer) for data for both forum and shopping cart login information, ect... (most important one right now). I know I can access the stored procedure was wondering if their was a laundry list somewhere that tells me which ones will need to be touched in order to make the Forum software point to my customer table INSTEAD of the User table you provide.

This means I would like the login, updating, creating of users to use MY table. I am hoping this is a matter of dealing with the SP in SQL Server and that is it.

However, I wasn't sure how much the user table is used in other stored procedures that did not pertain to those particular functions.

Encryption issues are you using them and what is the method? SHA256?

Does all code reference SQL Server Stored Procedures? Ie no Dynamic SQL existing in the code behind that are referencing the users table?

Any articles on this?
Reading through articles, and I am a little weak in this Area with .NET, but it looks like you are taking advantage of the security features .NET comes with. Is it possible to integrate the two together? My Classic ASP uses Session variables as well as javascript cookies to maintain state. It would be nice if they didn't have to relogin inorder to use the forum. Is their an article that talks about this. I notice the one that pertained to the Security settings but it looked like it was written if I had another ASP.NET app. which is not the case. (would be nice to be able to do but could live with)

Suppression of "Delete" Button for non-Moderators

I'm not concerned at all with which forums the users are moderators of (all the moderators have rights over all forums.)

Skins - Adding and Deleting

A little help please.

I had created a new skin, a user selected that skin...then later I deleted the skin. The user was unable to then log in to the Forum as he received an server error...reading into the error it referenced the old (now deleted skin) I added the skin back manually (copied and pasted the file set folder) and he was able to then login. (Thankfully I kept a backup) By the way I had a developer I work with "Turn on enhanced/extended error display" on the server to see the complete server error display" or I would have never seen this reference to a deleted skin.

What is the proper way to delete skins so this doesn't happen?

Selecting the skin and clicking on the delete button appears to do nothing...unless it takes minutes or hours. I have seen in other posts that it can take '24 hours for skins to be added or deleted' is this true? IF so can this be modified so the change is more 'instant' in nature?

Actually I have 2-3 skin folders that I wish to delete....failed experiments. And I don't know if someone has selected them.

It would be best IF a user selected a deleted skin that they get the default skin instead of an error, the next time they login.

A general response about how to remove skins (without causing errors as I explained above) would be nice. Any help would be appreciated. As I would like to 'clean up' the forum for the client. And leave them with the default & Liquid Violet skins and one custom skin.

Help me please get a "High Level" understanding on this adding-deleting skins issue....thank you.

By the way when using the online Help it states to add or delete skins go here....and the section talks about adding skins but NOT deleting them...did I overlook something?

Just started working on a community forum that has already been set up and implemented with InstantForum it's my first time using this type of forum I have all the access to the admin section etc and have been playing around with things, finding my way around. The person who set it all up is no longer around so I need some help working a few things out.

1. There is a forum header set up with a title and some introductory text where would I edit this introductory text?

2. The date and format is in american format i.e dd/mm/yyyy I have changed it in managesettings/general settings to the date format I want but still it stays as the format dd/mm/yyyy? any ideas what I might be doing wrong there?

3. Also was hoping to change some things in the Personal Details options where people can write there interests and biography i want to rename these sections to favourite bands / favourite movies is this possible and where would I change the fields?
