Database At Final Release of 4.1.4

Will there be any additional database updates at final release that were not included in the beta going from 4.13 to 4.14?

Private Message Pop-Up Notification

On 4.1.4 RC1 the Private Message Pop-Up Notification acts goofy. It works sometimes, but other times it does not.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Member Groups / Roles

I'm getting an error when trying to go into the "Manage Member Groups" page within the Admin CP. I will post the actual error after I explain this further.

1. I installed the 4.1.4 beta (1 and 2). These were fresh installs & they work fine.
2. I ran the sql db update script 4.1.3 to 4.14. Completes fine.
3. Change the connection string in the newly installed forums and it successfully runs with "my" database.
4. However : There is a "role / group" problem. The "Manage Member Groups" page within the Admin CP throws the following error, when using database which was updatedby the script. This page works fine with the freshly installed 4.1.4. beta db.

Use forum names as page title?

I'm running 4.1.4 RC1 on ASP.NET 2.0 on my local machine (after doing the .NET 2.0 conversion). It runs great, BUT the page title of the web browser is just the path to the actual page being displayed.

Example : http://localhost/webapp/forum/Default.aspx

Yes, I have the "Use forum names as page title?" option set to "Yes" ;)

FYI: I only have this symptom when running the forum on ASP.NET 2.0.

Cosmetic bug: text at top of post page

Paging on ASP.NET 2.0

I've converted a fresh install of InstantForum 4.1.4 RC1 to ASP.NET 2.0 and the forum is running great, except for a couple of things. One of them is as follows:

When viewing the topics within a forum.. multi-paged topics have a small paging control to the right of the topic name - as follows:

However: this paging control does not work when running the forum on ASP.NET 2.0.

It links to the following url:
http://localhost/webapp/forum/Skins/SkinName/Controls/Topic4-3-2.aspx

When it should link to the following url:
http://localhost/webapp/forum/Topic4-3-2.aspx

Once you go into a topic - the paging control within that page works fine.

I have not been able to reproduce this when running the forum on ASP.NET 1.1

Is anyone else running 4.1.4 on ASP.NET 2.0? If so, can you confirm this condition?

Error When Clicking "Login" Link

When clicking the "Login" link a page error is generated stating the following...

If I click on another link (I.E. Members) and have not logged in the login page is displayed OK. Any ideas?

"InsertPost" Exception

Within my own web application (which is integrated with InstantForum), the

"InstantASP.InstantForum.Business.Posts.InsertPost" command now throws an exception on 4.1.4 RC1. The command line used has not changed and worked fine on version 4.1.2.

"Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object"

However: It does successfully Insert a Post, even though an exception is raised. Could be something in regard to a returned value or object???

New features list

I looked and looked, but couldn't find a concise list of all the new feature's, and more importantly, bug fixes for 4.1.4. There are a few things I was told would be addressed in 4.1.4, and just want to check that they have been before I move forward with the release.

Web.config authorizations

My website uses InstantForum's API for User Authentication. In several instances I use a web.config file within a sub-folder to allow/disallow certain roles. With 4.1.4 it is not working (at least for me). The authorization code within my site works perfectly, it's just the web.config, which is as follows:

Permissions problem in 4.1.4

Ok, I took the plunge and went back to 4.14 after rolling back to 4.13 the last time. Already I have encountered a major problem. If I try to edit any posts of other users as an admin by clicking Edit on the post, I get the following:

The following error occurred...

You don't have the neccessary permissions to access the requested page. It's likely the forum administrator has restricted access to this feature.

I don't know if it is related to the group/roles problem reported in another thread, but it is a serious enough problem that I will probably roll back again if there is not an easy way to resolve it.

Problem with emoticons in 4.1.4

The output path for emoticons has changed from /images/emotions/ to /images/emoticons/, but there is no corresponding folder so all smileys in posts appear broken. There is no /images/emoticons/ folder in the 4.14 beta.

4.1.4 Registration Problem

After upgrading from 4.13 to 4.14, everything seemed to be working ok - however, all new users who tried to register would receive an error message upon completing registration, and on trying to sign in after that. After doing some research, it turns out the corresponding record for each account was not being created in the InstantForums_Users table. Manually creating the record would allow the account to sign in. The problem occured with every single registration - I had to roll back to 4.13 for now and fix the accounts that had no record in InstantForums_Users - definitely something you need to take a look at.

We've recently released a BETA version of InstantForum.NET v4.1.4 to gather feedback and further comments from the community before a final release. If your an existing InstantForum.NET v4.0 customer you can download the BETA now from within your My.InstantASP account on the My Licenses page.

Having significantly reworked a number of classes and stored procedures within this release a beta is the most sensible approach before a final release within the next week or two.

I've created this forum to serve as the main discussion area for the v4.1.4 BETA release. Please use this forum to post information specific only to the InstantForum.NET v4.1.4 BETA.

Please post any questions / bugs / problems you feel are related to v4.1.4 and we will do our very best to address any issues or concerns before final release.

Unfortunately won't be introducing any further new features for the v4.1.4 final release so please keep the discussion specific to current bugs / issues or general questions with the current code-base. If you have a feature suggestion we always welcome these within our Suggestions Forum.

MSI Setup Failure / Help Upgrading

I'm having problems installing from the MSI. I run the regular setup and enter my SQL information and click next. I receive the following page:

The wizard was interrupted before Instant Forum.Net v4.1.4 Developer License could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.

Click Finish to exit the wizard

I'm a domain admin and didn't have this problem installing 4.1.3. Also.. what's the easiest way to upgrade the forums... since i have 4.1.3 on one server and i was going to upgrade that and install a clean 4.1.4 on another server for testing. Is there a document on best practices on upgrading the forum software?

Any help would be very appreciated. I'm frustrated on the matter.

Page / Topic Titles Not Pulling

In setting up 4.1.4 I noticed that after you even setup a forum name the title in the web browser doesn't change from the generic name.. so instead of saying:

My Instant Forum - Microsoft Internet Exp....

I get:

User Authentication / Integration

My site has integrated IF in conjunction with the IF documentation and has been working wonderfully on 4.1.2 for a long time. When I update to 4.1.4 and login to the forum... anytime I go to one of my own pages I get an error:

It is looking for the Pages.config file within the root of my application, BUT IF is installed in a sub-folder "forum". For some reason, 4.1.4 thinks it is installed in the root application....

Has there been any changes to the user auth integration code within the documentation -or- some sort of setting to help IF understand that it is installed in a sub web application?

FYI : It seems that skins created with 4.1.3 (or older) do not work with 4.1.4.
