This is only semi hard coded. You can change it here:

\InstantKB20\Configuration\apps.config

Just open that file in a text editor.

Hope your well. We will with the final version offer legacy redirects out the box. It's spmething we didn't manage to squeeze into this update.

Luckily what you require is very simple. Open up the URLRewrite.config file within note pad or similar ascii editor and added the following rules...

The First Rule I worked out the other day and tried, but for some reason it doesn't want to work.

As for the second, It looks like it should work, but only for 1 category, and as I have about 500+ categories, I don't really want to add each one too the URLRewrite file. Note: while it looks like it should work, just like the first rule it too doesn't work at all.

Hi Rob, Yes those are the Demo Categories from 1.3 that I mentioned in my previous post. The delete function doesn't work properly and it leaves a records in the database. If you have a copy of your 1.3 DB somewhere have a look through the main categories table. The upgrade script is pulling these across as well.

This also happens for any other categories that you deleted in the past.

I masked 2 out which are not "demo" ones which I am unsure where these are from (but related to the company I work for)

No panic Ryan, I'm "testing" the upgrade on another computer I built up, it's not live so no harm done in any of this and no panic to get any scripts to alter anything.

Hi Rob.

I'm not sure why they would have left it unmasked. But assuming masking it causing no problems here is how you can do it (will take about 2 mins to complete)

1) find and open: ..\InstantKB20\Skins\Classic\Admin\Controls\adminsettingsemailsmtp.ascx

2) Goto line 67. It should look like:
<InstantASP:TextBox CssClass="FormInputText" id="txtSMTPPassword" runat="Server"/>

3) add "TextMode="Password" " to the line. ie it should now look like:

<InstantASP:TextBox CssClass="FormInputText" TextMode="Password" id="txtSMTPPassword" runat="Server"/>

4) Save the file.

IT should all work find now.

Hehe well spotted Rob. I really need to get some documentation up to detail these type of changes. Your quite right in 1.3 users could not provide an email address and as such we could not map anything other for this to 2.0. We will be suggesting to admins to add email addresses for any user accounts they previously created. It's not ideal but we don't have any existing data to map over and going forward this will be required. 2.0 is a little light on user specific features with only the ability to edit your profile information currently however we do have plans to introduce user tagging and also the ability to users to contribute where allowed (similar to a wiki). For all this functionality we will need complete profile information (username, email, password).

Sorry to take your time up Rob. I'll be working on documentation today which will hopefully answer a number of questions customers will have when moving from 1.3. This will hopefully save you a little time although great investigation work ;)

Your correct this shoyuld be the other way around. A fresh isntall will create a single category called Welcome to InstantKB.NET. The upgrade script will not create any new categories. I'm not quite sure whats happened here. I've been working with the fresh install and upgrade script over the last couple of days and have not seen this problem.

I have spotted an issue when attempting to sort categories if you upgrade from 1.3. I'll have a script available today / tomorrow to resolve a number of small issues.

Thats a good question Rob. InstantKB_AdminUsers.FullName has now been mapped to InstantASP_Users.USername. The reason beg ind this is that we use the InstantASP_Username for all created by & last modified by information. There is no guarantee users will provide a first and last name within there profile and they are not required fields during registration. It would make sense to map FullName to the First and Last name fields as FullName.

Thats actually a very good point Rob. With the ability to switch between the email address or Username as your login information for 2.0 this is obviously not a good idea. We'll modify this to ensure it uses the first and last name from your profile if provided to display alongside all articles. We will still need to initially map FullName to Username for 1.3 to 2.0 as we don't have any other existing data within InstantASP_AdminUsers we could really use.

Agreed. Thanks Rob this will change. If you've already upgraded your database i'll create a little script to copy your usernames over to the first and last names. You would then need to ask your staff / admin members to maybe update there username if you use this for the lpg in detail.

We've not defaulted them to the root. This will be the category role relationships. With 2.0 as an admin you get to now see everything. I suspect the categories that now appear in your 2.0 installation where associated with a role in your 1.3 installation that was then removed. When you remove a role it won't delete any categories as a category can have multiple roles associated. As an admin in 2.0 we also don't apply any role check against content so you'll always see all categories and articles etc regardless of roles. This helps ensure if your staff members mess up any member group relationships and maybe remove all member groups linked to a category or article you can still view this as an admin to correct any mistakes. We'll be looking to add a option to allow admin's to view the knowledgebase as any role would see it in a early 2.x update.

Thanks Rob. You've been a great encourgaement during the development. RC1 does still have it's little issues however i wanted to put something out to get exactly this type of feedback. I myself have disovered a number of small things since going live and i plan to offer a small update of just the assemblies to resolve a number of issues for those of you running on a live site. I'll keep these assemblies updated with any fixes upto the final release. Of course i'll be using our new knowledgebase of post these fixes and further information.

Yeah I had the same thing. From that I can tell they are actually the demo categories from 1.3

1.3 doesn't seem to actually delete them from the database, but rather just remove them from the ActiclesTreeNodes table (The one responsible for building the and managing the categories)

So the upgrade script is just copying over all Categories in the db whether they are still an active category or not.

Replying to myself 4tw :)

After a 1.3 > 2.0 upgrade, on the manage member groups screen, all the permission sets boxes have no permissions assigned to them. I can update 1 and then it errors, if I update 1 and then leave the screen it completely trashes the connection and all I get are asp error pages. Only way back I found is to restore the 1.3db and run the upgrade again (though I only did that cos I couldn't find the entries in the SQL db).

I would love to give you the error screens but I don't want to trash it again :)

After looking at it again it would be easier to just leave login by email rather than change it to login by username, that way the displayed username is of no use to anyone.

Oh, just realised the article has the UserName attached to it and not an almalgamation of FirstName LastName, so changing this will put usernames against the article. Actually this isn't good because it's showing people all the Usernames to everyone who visits. It would have been better to populate the FullName into either the FirstName or LastName and use that against the article as the editor.

TotalVisits for users (not admin users) has had a default figure of 38 put in by the upgrade? Where's it got that from :)?

On a better note V2 looks awesome if not complicated from an admins point of view, great work chaps.:D
