We have noted the feedback on permission driven button visibillity, and its likely to be implemented in a future version, although we cant garauntee it for 4.2 we will do our best. As for customisation of interface based on role, if it's not permission based we'll probably be leaving it as is, meaning that it will require some customisation by yourself to facillitate such customisations.

Yes, we would like to hiden some buttons in this case, when they are not permission to view.

Example: Edit and Delete buttons, only authors and mods can be used these buttons. With another they will be hidden.

Have any plaint?

I also second the above opinions that if permissions are disabled, the relevant buttons (e.g. Members or Calendar) should not appear, rather than having to edit code.

I too would fully support the request of removing buttons people shouldn't see. In fact, it is the main reason I have held back migrating my Snitz forum to this package.

Jason,
if you go into 'Manage Forums' and edit the forum in question, remove all but the groups you wish to have access from the Member Groups with Access, and the forum should then become invisible to all but the selected groups.

Maybe this is related to this topic.

I am getting complaints about users clicking on forums they don't have permissions to read.

We have a subscriber only forum and others keep trying to get into it. And of course they can see the "last posted" and all that information. That is sort of leaking information they don't have permission to see.

Is there a way around this?

we second this request. We've got already several complaints from our community about offering them buttons which lead to permission errors.

Carlos, your proposal about hiding links hardcoded makes no sense, cause in that case also all permissioned users won't see any links anymore!

Dear Felicity,

You can hide some hyperlinks modifying the InitMainNavigation method in the InstantASP.InstantForum\InstantASP.InstantForum.UI\Controls\MainNavigation.vb file.

hypWhosOn.visible = false

You can do it also adding the visible=false at the MainNavigation.ascx file.

I stand by your side. At this moment you need to remove or hide them yourself. Seems to me that is good design practice to hide stuff a user is not permitted to use. Unless there are good commercial reasons to trick him in buying an 'enhanced' license.

It appears buttons show no matter what and when you click without permission, you must login. I'd rather have buttons/links not show at all.
