Post install probs (user reg and email probs)

Hi,

I currently have two problems with a new install of InstantKB2...

The first is when a user attempts to register. They enter all their details and the following error message comes up...

The second is email. It is refusing to send out any emails. I can only login as Admin because of the above error but all the settings are correct for our local mail server. With the debugging options turned off in web.config it tells me that the emails have been sent successfully, however when I turn on the debug options the screen freezes and all I get is this...

which just sits there!

Any ideas?

Edit Template doesn't work in 2.0.4

In 2.0.4 I get the following when trying to edit a field template.

How can I fix this?

Also when I hover over the 'Knowledgebase' link in the Admin panel it says the link to edit the template is: http://blackbox/KBase/Admin/AdminEditFieldTemplate1.aspx

[RecipientUsername] variable not working in e-mail notifications

I am testing SMTP and I am not getting the following variables (smart tags?) resolving correctly. I am using the default templates and both [RecipientUsername] and [RecipientEmailAddress] did not perform the proper substitution for an e-mail change notification. I am using v2.0.4

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? The user name is "Mr. Test"

How do you trun on debugging for SMTP problems

SMTP is working intermittently with KB 2.0.4 and I need to be able to turn on some sort of debugging to see exactly what is going on. How do you do it and where is the output it produces located?

Special characters

I hope someone can help me with this very strange problem..

Were using InstantKB as a knowledge base for our customer service department in Denmark.

In the danish language there are special characters like ø, æ and å.

When i use these characters in the knowledge base they sometimes get replaced by squares or other symbols, but its not always . There are several places in the knowledge base where it shows the characters correct.

I have used the characters in categorys and some places it shows correctly and some places it dosnt.

Has anyone else had this problem? or does any of you have an idea how to solve the issue?

Customize Registration Page

Active Directory Integration with InstantKB

My department is interested in using InstantKB .net. However, whether it offers integration with Active Directory or not could be a deal breaker. I've read that there are plans for it.. but I haven't seen much else.

Does anyone know if it IS implemented yet.. or when exactly it will be?

InstantForum 4.1.4 and InstantKB 2.0 share database?

I would like to integrate authentication for both InstantForum and InstantKB into a custom web application. I have InstantForum integrated into my application already: I can register new users and pass login information from my app to InstantForum.
But because InstantForum and InstantKB seem to have different database structures, I don't exactly see how the two could share a user table.

How would I go about sharing the user table for InstantForum and InstantKB, or how would I alter one of them to accommodate my needs?

Weighted search results??

The search engine as it is now is a bit limiting because it does not rank the results based on a score related to the number of "hits" in the search.

I think it should be a standard feature to do this. If I do a search that returns hundreds of articles for a key word search, I want the article(s) that has the most occurrences of the search term shown first, not 10 pages deep because it was the first article entered into the database.

This only makes sense and since everyone uses a search engine on the web, their expectations is that the search will be a little more intelligent than just returning articles sorted by date and or title. Sorry, but Google has spoiled us. :)

Please advise when you can make the search engine more functional when you have thousands of articles to search through. As it is now, I am getting daily complaints from my users (there are several thousand of them world wide) that it is hard to find what they are searching for with the current limited display options.

KB 2.0 under HTTPS

When I first uploaded the new version of the KB to our web server, I was dismayed to discover that some of the images were not displaying. When I took a closer look, I saw that the src attribute was something like:

It took me a bit of rooting around, but I discovered that there are a few instances in the code that look like:

If ctlSomeControl.Image.IndexOf("http://") >= 0 Then

I had to add:

Or ctlSomeControl.Image.IndexOf("https://") >= 0

before the images would be correctly displayed. I'm working out of 2.0.1 at the moment, but I did a diff on the 2.0.2 code and the bug seems to be there as well.

I am using the exact same credentials for SMTP as I do the the InstantForums 4.x from the same server (no firewall issues) and e-mail is not working. There was a comment that this was an issue and there was a work around, but my requests for getting it have fallen of deaf ears. Still waiting...

BUG: Export to PDF not working as expected

When I export an article to PDF, it renders tables incorrectly where the content is not visible and if there is an image in the article, it is never shown.

How to hide "Add your Comments" on bottom of articles ?

I have removed the right to add comments to all permission profiles, but now there is a message at the bottom of all articles that says "Comment require login or registration."

I want to disable comments all together (I have no need for it). How can I remove this message at the bottom of all articles ?

Login page shows "Anonymous login" even when it is disabled in Admin CP

I have set "Allow Anonymous Login" to No on the Admin CP - Settings - Registration & Login page, but it still shows the checkbox on the login page.

Is it a bug or am I misunderstanding this feature ?
