Since running repair on .NET on my forum server to fix an issue with private message attachments - now all email is staying queued up and not being sent out - users not being notified of private messages, activation emails, nor notification of postings to topics and forums subscribed to.

As well, it appears that the Who's On is not being cleared.

Am using 4.1.4 with SP1.

I have restarted the forum web site via IIS Manager but still same.

Any recommendations?

- Joyce

Update:

I had posted the above about 12 minutes after rebooting. Another 5 has gone by now, and the emails have finally been sent out, and Who's On has been cleared.

I will post back if this starts happening again.

Unfortunately same issue began occurring again after the intial sending out of the queued up email and initial clearing of Who's On.

Did some checking around on the server and than back to this forum, and thought that the comment suggested by one of the forum dudes to select the default application pool sort of could be used for troubleshooting.

The DefaultAppPool was already selected for the forum website, so made a new separate application pool based on the default, and selected it for use only by the forum (as have two other websites on this server that was also using the DefaultAppPool).

Since than have done constant testing and YEAH! - getting notified of new topics, no email staying queued up, and Who's On is automatically clearing itself up.

Wanted to let any others who have experienced this on a Win2003 server what I did that appeared to resolve the issue.

I'm posting back to let you all know that this continues - about once a week (sometimes twice a week) I have to go onto the server and stop the forum's application pool and restart it to get the Who's On to clear and to have email sent out. Than it will work fine again for anotehr 3 to 6 days and than I have to do it again. Sometimes I catch it before too much email piles up, other times I don't and email is sitting there in the queue waiting for a day.

I initially had created a separate pool for the forum site, and that appeared to fix the issue till about 10 days went by, and now regularly it requires stopping and starting of ther application pool to work

The InstantForum dudes are unable to reproduce and therefore unable to come up with any suggestions.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, have they come up with a solution as to fix it permanently? My forum has been on this server since April and had no problems till end of August - other than the regular Windows service patches, nothing has changed on this server since its initial setup in April - so I would be interested to know if it happens to others with the same specs - as may be a specific Windows 2003 or IIS 6 thing.

Again, my specs are Windows 2003 with all SP and patches, IIS 6, InstantForum.NET 4.1.4, SQL Express 2005

I'm seeing this problem as well.

Windows 2003, lastest patches instantforum v4.1.4 SQL 2005.

I have a number of queued emails that just don't get sent out unless someone "does something" to the server. The problem is very intermittent. Sometimes queued emails eventually get sent out after a day or so.

I'm very concerned that instantasp have known about this problem for YEARS and have not provided a public fix for it.

What is the solution to this problem?

At the moment, the best resolution in place is to utilise the following token:

<add key="InstantASP_AutoFlushMailQueue" value="True"/>

Add this to your web.config, and it should bypass the mail queue delay by flushing it every time a new mail is generated.
