It has just been pointed out to me by one of the users of my horshamforum.com that the Rich Text Editor does not work correctly when using Firefox.

If you highlight a block of text and them attempt to change the font the highlighting is removed and the code is pasted directly into the text editor. Also the pop up colour editor does not offer a palette but a box which (for the average user) very unhelpfully requests an HTML RGB value.

I have just confirmed these symptoms for myself.

Hi All,

Sorry for my delay. Please be assured I do listen to all feedback posted within the community forums. I may not personally respond right away however we'll will always strive to implement great ideas and suggestions.

The WYSIWYG editor won't provide the same experience when viewed within gecko based browsers. It will default to using IFCode to format posts. It will still work within FireFox, Opera etc and allow users to format messages but with some limitations.

The editor will always attempt to downgrade gracefully for browsers that don't support the MSIE HTML Engine.

We've been working with InstantKB.NET v2.0 to ensure a true cross-browser WYSIWYG experience. We now have an editor that provides similar functionality in both IE and Gecko based browsers. This will be included within the next InstantKB.NET release and we will be looking to move this over to InstantForm.NET to offer the same cross-browser support for the WYSWYG control.

I hope this helps a little. We are aware of the current limitations with the editor within Gecko based browsers and it's something we will be improving upon with future releases.

If you need anything further or have any other suggestions please don't hesitate to respond.

Kindest Regards,

I am a bit disappointed that nearly 2 weeks after posting this message nobody form InstantASP has even acknowledged it. I am obviously not expecting an instant fix just an acknowledgment of my message. Too make it easy for you please select from one of the two following options.

1. Yes it is a bug and we will try and fix it.

2. No it is not a bug - we don't support Firefox

A simple yes or no answer will do!

Hi DotNetWebs,

Just for your information and to prevent any further delays. These are community based forums. The forums are intended for customers to communicate with one another and a place to gather product feedback. We will try to contribute however please appreciate we are also very busy with ticket based support.

We review all product feedback forums periodically and especially during release cycles. Some posts within the suggestions or bugs forums may not receive a response right away.

If you have an issue that requires an immediate response please open a support ticket at http://my.instantasp.co.uk/MyTickets.aspx

This will ensure you receive a same day response to any questions. Alternatively you can also try our Live Chat option available from our homepage. This will allow you to speak with us directly if you have any questions.

Again sorry for any delay. Please be assured we are aware of the current limitations and have been working to improve cross-browser suport within the editor. We have something in place for our next knowledge base release. The updated editor will be ported over the forum ASAP.

Hope this helps a little,

Kindest Regards,

What are we supposed to after the support period has run out and we are unable to raise a ticket?

These Firefox bugs are MAJOR issues. A significant number of people use Firefox now, particularly amongst the sort of web-savvy people that use forums. I KNOW this problem is loosing me members.

Hi DotNetWebs,

Hope your very well. I'm sorry to hear this is causing you problems. Unfortunately we don't have a fix as yet to provide complete WYSIWYG functionality within FireFox. This is something we are aware of and are working to provide an update. This will be addressed in our next v4.1.5 update.

If your still having problems with the forum or awaiting a fix for any issues and your ticket period has expired please send me a email on ryan@instantasp.co.uk with your My.InstantASP account email and i'll reset this right away. You can also prompt me via our Live Chat feature available on the web site at http://www.instantasp.co.uk.

The WYSIWYG editor currently within FireFox will offer limited functionality. We do make attempts to downgrade gracefully and users can still post and use IFCode to format messages. However being a FireFox user myself fully appreciate we need complete FireFox support.

As you may or may not be aware we are currently working on our InstantKB.NET v2.0 update and have invested significant time in ensuring InstantKB.NET v2.0 offers a full WYSIWYG experience within all popular browsers.

I've included links to some screen grabs below of our new InstantKB.NET v2.0 editor. As you can see this offers the same experience in FireFox as you would get in other browsers.

http://downloads.instantasp.co.uk/InstantKB20Editor2.gif

We are still working hard to make our InstantKB.NET v2.0 update available ASAP. The moment this is ready we will be porting the new WYSIWYG over to InstantForum.NET for the v4.1.5 update.

The v4.1.5 update will focus on moving the product completely towards ASP.NET v2.0 (master pages, sql cache dependency etc), integration with InstantKB.NET v2.0 *users & tolrd), the WYSIWYG editor (improved cross browser support) and general performance improvements and bug fixes.

We are currently working on a small update for InstantForum.NET v4.1.4 which will address a number of know issues. Unfortunately due to the work involved with porting the editor this issue will not be address in our hotfix. It will be addressed in v4.1.5 which you can expect this early Q2.

Sorry we can't offer an immediate fix for this issue. If you can just hold out a little longer i can assure you we will have full cross browser WYSIWYG support very soon. In the meantime please prompt me via email or live chat and we'll reset your support period. I'll also look at preparing a sample of InstantForum.NET using http://freetextbox.com/.

I hope this helps a little. If you need anything don't hesitate to contact me here or respond on the details above,
