I have a production environment of InstantKB that has approx. 300 users, 6700 articles and over 350 Categories. As I have added Categories, browsing performance has become worse and worse. Search, which we Index every night, is great, but I cannot roll out a Public instance to our end-users if Browse takes between 8-28 seconds to go from one topic to the next. As I add Categories, this gets worse and worse.
Is there a way to improve the Browse performance OR hide the Browse tab as I have done for Admin and Login in this anonymous instance?
Cheers,
Chris Wright

| Hi All, I'm sorry to hear about these problems. There are some known performance issues with InstantKB.NET v1.3 when you have lots of categories and roles. It's certainly possible to improve the performance of v1.3 by caching the results of the ikb_sp_GetNodes query which returns a dataset of categories. You can find this call within the ReturnNodeData method within the InstantKBComponents\Controls.vb file. We'll look at preparing an example however we will need a little time to test the modification and generate test data. We've significantly improved performance in this area with our forthcoming InstantKB.NET v2.0 release. We've even implemented a new Ajax based client-side tree-view which ensures high performance regardless of category numbers. This will allow you to navigate your entire category structure from a single page with no post-backs. Don't hesitate to add me to your MSN's to discuss this further on sales[AT]instantasp.co.uk.
 Kindest Regards,

| Ryan, Good to hear about the AJAX treeview. When can I buy that version ? I would like to as soon as possible. Also, it would definitely be a great feature, if the 'Browse' tab could be hidden. Can you implement that as well? The 'Search' tab provides some excellent functionality with good performance, and some people would like to use only the 'Search' function in their web sites. I will wait for your response.
Thanks Sunil
