Hello,

It would be great if there was a document library built into InstantForum - similar to public folders in Exchange.  This document library could be used to archive PDF's, software updates, etc.  I think that many businesses would find your product more attractive if it had very basic public folders and document sharing abilities.

Also, it would be very valuable if forum administrators/moderators could broadcast email announcements to a members of a forum or the members of a collection of forums.

Cheers,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Great suggestions. I've been hoping for some time to add document sharing to both the forums or knowledge base or even possibly develop a separate application that could integrate into the kb and forums.

Attachments will be in the next release of the forums and i'll certainly look at sharing capabilities then. Email management will also be a feature of the next release. This will allow you to send bulk email's to all forum members or specific forum groups.

I hope this helps. Thank you for taking the time to submit your ideas. This is greatly appreciated.

Ryan,

Sounds cool.  Here's an additional thought:

Let's say that you did implement a document library and forum attachments.  Could you make it so a user would have the option of adding an attachment to a post and publish the file to a public/private folder?  Forum moderators could screen the uploaded file and determine whether it should appear in the appropriate folder.

Picture this type of scenario:  Hundreds of people are members of a cooking forum.  They constantly post recipies.  In this scenario, users would have the option of having their recipe added to a public archive.  A forum moderator would have to approve the recipe before it appears in the archive.  Over time, the community would develop a kick-ass library of recipes.  You could also allow users to rate the quality of a file in an archive (a.k.a. - give the file 1-5 stars).  Make sense?

Cheers,

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Sounds like a great idea. I do have a number of ideas for attachments within the forums this has certainly given some further food for thought. I'll see what i can do with regards to these suggestions. I'm keen on the idea especially for the knowledge base as this would fit very nice with a FAQ builder i'm planning. Thanks for the suggestions and please do continue to submit ideas. Its always very useful to know what customers require from our software.  Much appreciated
