Hi All,

I just wanted to post a quick update and a link to our InstantKB.NET v2.0 online demo...

http://89.21.0.37/InstantKB20/Knowledgebase/Welcome-to-InstantKB.NET-v2.0

Although we've made great progress we are still not feature complete. Things have taken a little longder due to some great beta feedback. I wanted to get the demo online to show our current status. We'll be keeping this demo updated every couple of days.

We only have a hand-full of features to complete however i'm sorry to say we won't meet our expected date of 31st Oct (despite working silly hours) for final release. I'll be spending a little time today running through what we still need to complete and will post further information ASAP.

I appreciate a number of you are awaiting for InstantKB.NET v2.0 and we'll be looking to make a robust release candidate available later this week. If your a new v2.0 user we will be providing upgrade scripts to move from release candidates to final release. Hopefully this will offer the opportunity for some to get started with v2.0 around our expected release date. Unfortunately we won't be able to support migrating your existing v1.3 data to v2.0 until the v2.0 schema is final.

We've also been working on documentation for InstantKB.NET v2.0. We'll actually be hosting this documentation in our online form within a instance of InstantKB.NET v2.0. I'll be working to make this available within the next couple of weeks Of course if you have any questions please don't hesitate to respond here or email me on ryan@instantasp.co.uk

As always thank you all for your support, comments and time.

I look forward to posting further updates very soon,

Kindest Regards,

Ryan Healey

I'm going to keep editing this post so re-read

If you login as admin@admin.com with password admin it takes you to

http://89.21.0.37/InstantKB20/Welcome-to-InstantKB.NET-v2.0

which generates a 404 - it doesn't do this in beta 3.

[edit]I just noticed after posting that it does log you in though and the admin section is viewable.

[edit2]I tried to remove the submit ticket from the front page by restricting viewing to administrators only (which initially worked) however after logging out (to see if it did disappear) I couldn't log back in.  When I eventually logged back in I couldn't edit the submit ticket custom tab to put it back as it was (it pops up an error).

[edit3]Wow this is MUCH more stabler than any beta and some of the features I used to trash the db so I had to re-create it no longer do this

But still getting a couple of errors.....  On of the functions that I used to completely trash the db was to restrict the use of the submit ticket button to just administrators (so it's removed, cos we wont be using this function of V2).  This time on your online version the db stays intact and in fact makes the submit ticket button disappear when you logout as administrator .  But when you try and log back in you get this

Eventually the above message stops appearing and you can log in without any issues and the submit ticket button still does what it wants.

Login as admin - goto admin cp - click staff - click manage staff - click add new member takes you to add custom field.

Hi Tob,

Thanks for the feedback

There are a few problems you'll notice within the online demo that you didn't see within the previous betas.

Our online demo has the "Enable Search Engine Friendly URLs" option enabled. This works slightly differently then our standard URL rewritting as it provides support for virtual paths and allows us to include things ike the article title within the URL to improve search engine ranking.

This features requires a custom application mapping within IIS and was not available within the application settings within the previous downloadable betas. Only the standard URL rewritting was available.

Now we've enabled this feature i've also noticed a few issues with redirects after login and when within a virtual folder some paths not resolving back up to the root. I'll be working through these and will update the online demo in the next couple of days. I'll post an updated here once this is updated.

Also your suggestion to James with regards to a further beta. We've had a few similar requests for a further beta download and i'll be taking this into consideration. I'll be posting further information this week. We'll be pushing to have something you can start working with confidently with the next download.

I'm also aware of few problems when hiding tabs Rob. These will be resolved ASAP.

This is great feedback Rob. I sincerely appreciate your time. Thank you. Please keep it up

Hi,

looks like we are getting closer now as Beta 3 in testing seemed very far away from a final release.  Don't know if this is the right place but I though I would list a few bugs I found while using Beta 4 using your online version.

  • Under manage staff 'Add new member' actually take you to AdminInsertField.aspx instead.
  • the Activate Account button under edit members doesn't seem to work
  • Member Levels, get 'The resource cannot be found.' when clicking on 'Add member level'
  • under 'Member Permission Sets' if any of the "Member Groups' link on the right are clicked they all display 'The resource cannot be found.'
  • 'Manage Member Groups' Member Group links don't seem to work properly but could be be design?

Hope this helps, I will have a further play later. Looking better and better though.

Hi there,

Two questions.

1. Any decision yet on whether there will be a downloadable copy of Beta 4? If so when?

2. Will it be possible to upgrade the database from Beta3/4 to the final release?

BETA 4 will be downloadable by the same series of people who could download the previous 3 BETA's for testing. You should be able to move from BETA 4 forward through release candidate and final release. Once the final version is released we'll be aiming to make a migration script to migrate from 1.3 to 2.0 available.

Wow, what a change. I've flamed InstantASP in the past for their complete lack of communication re InstantKB, but I have to give them credit for the last couple of months.

Honest communication shows respect for customers. I now feel respected

P.S. InstantKB 2.0 looks great.
