Hi Guys, I participate in a forum that uses InstantForum.net. I really like the product. My only issue is that on occaision when trying to replky to posts, the page doesn't appear to load completely (ie status bar stating one item left to load) and the richtextbox and subject text boxes are effectively "locked", everything else (smilieys etc etc etc) works. Any ideas?

Hi - It's sounds to me like the box that is serving the forums is not sending all the forums to the client. I've seen this before with very busy web servers. I'd be interested to view the forums if you have a specific URL ?

Funny you mention this i've just registered at SQLServerCentral and noticed the same problem. Im positive this is not an issue with the forum and this has never been reported by any other users. All other installations of the forums i've seen don't seem to have this problem. I know SQLServerCentral is a very busy site and maybe some sort of bandwidth throttling is preventing all the images / text being sent back to the client on some requests. One other reason this cannot be my software is the fact it's an intermediate problem which suggests this relates to either the level of traffic on the box at any one time or some other problem. It would be worth asking Brian of SQLServerCentral.com if he has had this problem before. If this does turn out to be the forums (which i doubt) i'll certainly look at this in more detail Thanks for bring this to my attention Andy

The post.aspx page does load quite a few images - i'm wondering if any other page that generates lots of hits on the server has similar problems. Maybe ask Brian to upload a page with 40-50 images and see if that has similar problems. This is the only thing it can be as all the other forum pages load OK. I've PM'ed Brian and told him about v3.2 which allows members to disable the editor or at least cut the options down if they wish. This should offer a work around for some users. Also any information you can provide on Brian's box would be helpful. Is it dedicated ? - I suspect so - what settings are configured within IIS for the forum app ? It sounds like it could be something todo more with this than the forum itself

I'll take a look at perf on the box today. I dont think anything throttled, but will check that too.

Hi Andy, Could you tell when you experience this problem ? I only noticed this when sending a PM to Brian Knight. When i goto post everything seems fine. Do you notice any patterns ? Also is it possible to remove your header and footer and all other site HTML from post.ascx to see for sure if it is indeed the forums editor and not some content on your page that cannot be loaded ? Do you have any 404 errors being generated on post.ascx ? - it could be its searching for a spacer gif or something and cannot find this. Any assistance you can offer to help track this down would be good. I'd certainly remove all your site code from post.aspx and see if this continues.

Its intermittent. Users report that refreshing will sometimes correct it, and Mozilla users seem to be fine. Had thought much the same about trying to nail it down, had a few other issues we had to get resolved first. Depending on my schedule I'll get more into it tonight or tomorrow night and let you know.

Hi Andy, This is your banners - you will notice that when the page hangs no banner is displayed at the top next to your site logo. This has nothing todo with the forum application. You will need to remove that banner thats trying to load within BanManPro | |
