First off, I would just like to say how much we like the Forums and KB product. This is truly one of the highest (if not the highest) ROI / Bang for the Buck products I have ever seen and used.

Our company was in a state of transition and therefore would not purchase anything. But the R&D Department knew we needed a forums and KB product (and specifically liked this suite), so the Director of R&D paid for it out of his own pocket not knowing if the company will ever pay him back.

Anyway on to my questions.

We use the forums product mainly for internal support of our sales and operations department. Each week we have a person that rotates through the 'Hot Seat' and they are responsible to respond to all the post for that week.

First, is there a way currently to search for posts with no replies (and maybe bookmark the search) that way the Hot Seat person can make sure they are responding to all the posts?

Second, is there a RSS directory feed generated from the forums to allow users to easily subscribe to the forums RSS Feed (instead of having to add them one at a time)

Third: This may be a feature request, but is there a way to save searches to a RSS feeds. I have a cool sidebar application that allows you to subscribe to RSS Feeds and use Regular Expressions to convert a "news" page to an 'RSS' style feed. So what I currently do is have a regular expression the regresses the "Post from the Last X hours". It would be nice if there was a way to support this in the forums natively

Thanks,

Hi Jarrod,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm very pleased you and team enjoy the applications

I do hope your R&D director will get some compensation

I've answered your questions below. If you have any further questions or my answer does not help please don't hesitate to respond to this post

> First, is there a way currently to search for posts with no replies (and maybe bookmark the search) that way the Hot Seat person can make sure they are responding to all the posts?

If your forums are moderated any posts that have not been responded to will be displayed within the moderation CP link which is visible to all moderators top right within the forums. This will display a list of posts awaiting approval within the moderators assigned forums. If your forums are unmoderated and the questions are automatically published with no moderator approval unfortunately at this time there is no view available which will display posts with no replies. Are your forums very busy. I'm just thinking you could make all your forums moderated and only display a questions when it actually receives a response. I'll certainly consider this idea for a future release or add some ability on the search page.

> Second, is there a RSS directory feed generated from the forums to allow users to easily subscribe to the forums RSS Feed (instead of having to add them one at a time)

Hehe - this has been requested several times already. This will certainly be added to 3.5

> Third: This may be a feature request, but is there a way to save searches to a RSS feeds. Great minds think alike. Your second question got me thinking. What if i could provide a API to actually create views dynamically and allow administrators to define SQL statements to display the views. The views created by admins could be displayed within a custom dropdown menu top right. This would also fulfil your need to RegEx the HTML / News pages into RSS using your sidebar tool but you could also extend this and create your own forum views. This is a nice idea.

I'll certainly keep you posted. Please subscribe to this thread and i'll post any developments. A global RSS will certainly be available with 3.5 i just need to investigate how i control member group access securely within the RSS

Thank you for the kind words - knowing the products bring value to someone is a real boost of the old morale

Kindest Regards,

Cool, thanks for the response.

I do have a response on question one though:

Yes our forums are quite busy (as well as unmoderated) and with only one person (who is working on the forum fulltime during thier week) a couple of times now items have slipped through the cracks and we have caught heat over them.

I have tried using the search and giving it no criteria and just sort the post by # of replies but that does quite give me the response I was looking for (the last item in a thread has no replies ). So I guess what I am looking for is a way to find threads that do not have replies.

Also, since I have your ear, it might be neat if there was a way to mark a thread as inactive and then if someone posted to it , it would then become active again. You could then search on this. But that may be another product (InstantSupport.NET )

On a side note, looking at your release history, you must have a real crack development and QA team over there to pump out these feature at such a high rate. It must be great to work with such a productive team!

Hi Jarrod,

Thank you for your response.

I can see your problem with the sort by # of replies in ascending order on the search page. I'll look into this for 3.5 and add the ability to filter replies so you can show only topics. I think the ability to close a topic / make the topic inactive is a great idea. You can only currently do this by marking the post as an announcement which is obviously not ideal. This again will certainly be a feature within 3.5. I have a todo list for 3.5 which i've just added your items to so be assured these will make it

Thank you for your kind words regarding the productivity rate. This is greatly appreciated
