v4.0 had a 'Manage Skins' area within the Admin section... You can create a new skin within this area. The new skin will be the same as the classic skin that comes with the forum (you can actually choose what skin to use as a template for the new skin).
At that point... you can modify the images associated with a skin and/or modify the other colors and attributes within the skins .css file.
