Sounds like you are coming along quite well with the new version. I can't wait to finally be able to integrate your forums into might site now that it will have the features I need. One thing I didn't see though in your list of upgrades was the option to password protect specific forums. Were you considering this or is it possible. Also do you have a new estimate for a release date. Thanks again, Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks for your post. I've just updated our support forums to version 2.0. This version will be available for users once i have created the various setup scripts and updated the readme file. Your password protect feature is certainly a great idea and will be implemented in the next major release. I'm not able to provide a date at this time of when this will be I'll keep you updated on developments. If you have any further suggestions please don't hesitate to post them here

OK thanks. I figured as soon as I thought of one other feature I needed you would have everything else done. I assume setting up a moderated forum is the closest thing I can come to for now? Also when you have it setup to view posts for the past 30 days, 60 days, etc... I will need to be able to have options for past 24 hours, 3 days, etc... Will I be able to change that easily if I buy the developer license. Thanks again, Mike

One more quick question. Will the moderator of a particular forum be able to edit anyone's post in case someone posts something that is not allowed in the forum? Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, Good suggestion, I'll add more message filter options within the next release. This could be quite easily changed with the developers license. I would be happy to help over email or MSN. It's quite straight forward

What about with an unmoderated forum where the post is automatically posted. Can the moderator then edit the post or remove it if it is not allowed. Also I didnt realize how vital the password protected forum option is to the current forums my client is using. If I got the developers version do you think it would be very complex to integrate that feature on two of the forums. It would just be one simple username and password combination that everyone would share validating any user to view that specific forum. I am just trying to figure out some sort of solution to make this work. Your new version is exactly what i needed with that small exception. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike, Moderators can only edit posts that are pending approval. Forum administrators have the ability to edit all live posts and posts awaiting moderation. Adding a password feature to protect specific forums would not be to tricky. You could add a password required bit field to the InstantForum_Forums table. On the main forum page (default.aspx) you could modify the user control to point to a intermediate login page if the forum is password protected. This login page could then check a forum login table. This would be a simple database table with a username, password and forumid. If the username and password are found for a forum this would then redirect to message.aspx which would display the forum. You should then add a check to the top of shwmessage.aspx and message.aspx which ensures a user can view a forum if its protected. I hope this helps - I would welcome you to make this change. I will be looking into this possibility for future versions.

Hi Michael, Just a note to let you know more message filters and the ability to password protect a forum are now features of InstantForum.NET 2.1 (currently in aplha). If you have any further suggestions please don't hesitate to reply to this thread
