| I am planning on modifying the code to look for the username rather than the email for authentication, but I would like to suggest it for future releases anyway. It is common approach in forms authentication so most those who will be trying to integrate the forum into their website without using the IF's components will find it easier to do so. Also, if the user checked "Remember Me", it will be based on his email which may change so if the user changes his email, his authentication is lost. Since 4.0 offers login using username or email, maybe make it store either choice as authentication key. This keeps compatibility with 3.4 as well as offer the option to do it by username.

Dear Fadi, I am forwarding your message to our development department for consideration for inclusion in the functionality of this version. Thank you very much for your suggestion and please do contact me with any further ideas that come to mind.

| If you do implement this feature, I'd request that you make it an option. I prefer email authentication for my users.

I disagree entirely. As stated by someone else, at least make it an option. Email authentication is the way to go. Users end up with the same user accounts and emails that are 4 generations old. This does nothing for the "stickiness" of your site if you can't draw folks back to your forums with an email. When people see that email in their account, they recognize that they need to change it if their email address has been changed. If they're logged in and don't have access to their email it's no big deal to change it. If they're not logged in, means can be had to assure a change takes place (secondary passwords, i.e. place of birth, favorite pet, yada). The goal is to keep up-to-date emails, and making it a part of your login is a fantastic step to doing so.

Emmanuel Huna (7/26/2005) If you do implement this feature, I'd request that you make it an option. I prefer email authentication for my users. For my purposes I would prefer username. However, I do think it should be an option.
