Just purchased InstantForum.NET 4 and just setting up and have been playing with it for a few days. Am hoping someone on this forum can point in the right direction.

Have set up a moderator for forums have created. Have created some "test" forum regular users". Have created new posts, edited posts etc, but the assigned moderator does not receive notification that there are new topics, new posts, etc.

Do note am able to receive notification of new registrations etc so email is working.

Moderator group that the moderator belongs to has the following permissions:

Moderation Options
Always moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will always be placed into the moderation queue for approval.
Never moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will never require moderation and will always be immediately live.
Moderate edited posts?
If 'Yes' any edited posts will be placed into the moderation queue and will require moderator approval.
Send Post Approved E-mail's?
If 'Yes' an email notification will be sent to the original post author whenever a post is approved (made visible) from the moderation queue.
Skip moderation if user post count meets:
This will not take effect if you've selected 'Yes' to either Always or Never moderate above. Set to 0 to disable this feature and ensure posts are moderated within moderated forums.
Can send bad post reports?
If 'Yes' abusive or irrelevant posts can be reported to moderators within forums.

and the moderator themself has the following settings:

Moderation Email Options
Email notification for new topics?
If enabled within the forum specify if this moderator should receive email notifications for all new topics pending moderation.
Email notification for new posts?
If enabled within the forum specify if this moderator should receive email notifications for all new posts pending moderation.
Email notification for edited posts?
If enabled specify if this moderator should receive email notifications for edited posts placed back into the moderation queue.

Am I missing something?

Hadn't set to be notified of new posts via email - so have just done so. That's another thing that I want users to have automatically but will get to that later after moderators being notifed automatically.

You need to go into your Forum Members (or whatever group you are using for the regular members) and set those permissions to have the users always moderated. It is not automatic like in 3.4.  In the Admin CP, click on Manage Permission Sets and change the options in there for the various groups you are using.

Are you referring to the ability for users to be notified about replies to their posts? or to the question regarding moderators not receiving notification that there are posts?

If to the ability for users to be notified about replies to their posts - the setting has the following options:

Moderation Options
Always moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will always be placed into the moderation queue for approval.
Never moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will never require moderation and will always be immediately live.
Moderate edited posts?
If 'Yes' any edited posts will be placed into the moderation queue and will require moderator approval.
Send Post Approved E-mail's?
If 'Yes' an email notification will be sent to the original post author whenever a post is approved (made visible) from the moderation queue.

I do want all posts to go immeidately live without needing approval, so have it set to NO for Always moderate posts?

And have it set Never moderate posts? to YES so that they will go immediately live.

But in relation to the problem with the moderator not receiving notification?

Ok now I'm confused about what you want to happen.  You now say you want all the users posts to go live immediately correct? If so then there won't be any pending posts that need to be approved by the moderators, which is why they are not receiving emails about posts that need to be approved.

Please clarify what it is you are actually trying to setup.

1. We want all users posts (topics/replys/posts) to go immediately live without needing to be approved by a moderator.

2. But we want the moderator to be notified that there is a new post/reply/topic so if it is a question that that needs to be answered, the moderator is notified of this.

Ok then what you need to do, is set your forum member groups to Never Moderate Posts and then your Moderators need to individualy subscribe to each forum in order to receive post notification emails, just like a normal user would.  To do this they can click on Forum Options through the main part of the site.
