only if the topic requires that the moderator approve the topic does it first notify the moderator that there is a new topic

if you have it set that the topic doesn't need approval before going live, than you have to have the moderator subscribe to every forum they moderate so they can be notified when there are new posts.

at least that is what i have only been able to find out

if anyone else knows how to get around this, that would be quite fine.

Hi,

We just installed InstantForum v4.1.4 and are experiencing the same difficulty.

We need to notify moderators via email that new posts/threads have been submitted. "Moderation Email Options" have all been set to Yes and according to the documentation this should do the trick, but ... it is not working.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Marlon

Hi Marlon

Depends what you actually want:

1. Do you want users topic posts to go live, and the moderator to get notified that there is a new topic/post?

2. Or do you want the moderator to be notified that there is a new post/topic, and it only goes live after the moderator approves it?

Reason why I asked, is I wanted #1, and initially with version 4.1.2, InstantASP techs had to provide me with a specific DLL to allow this because there was a bug in that version (this topic was first posted back in 2005).

Now that I am using 4.1.4, to be automatically notified that a topic has been posted in a forum what I do is the following:

1. I have a Permission Set called Forum Moderator - and this has the following options set in the Moderations Options section of permissions:

Always moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will always be placed into the moderation queue for approval.
Never moderate posts?
If 'Yes' posts or edits will never require moderation and will always be immediately live.
Moderate edited posts?
If 'Yes' any edited posts will be placed into the moderation queue and will require moderator approval.
Send Post Approved E-mail's?
If 'Yes' an email notification will be sent to the original post author whenever a post is approved (made visible) from the moderation queue.

2. I have a group called Forum Moderators that use this permission set

2. Users that are moderators are made a member of this group Forum Moderators

3. When I create a new forum section, I add each moderator as needed to the new forum section (Manage Forums -> drop down Moderstors field I add the moderstors as needed)

I agree - its weird, sometimes I have to redo it a couple times before it comes up. I also log in as a "regular" forum user, make a post, and wait a while to ensure that the "moderstor" does or does not get notified to know for sure it is working.

Hope that gets you going. I understood that when you first buy InstantForum, you are supposed to get a year or 6 months of free support - so if no go here, do send a mesage via your My InstantSupport area - they are not too swift in answering, but eventually they do.

- JC
