| InstantASP is very pleased to announce the release of InstantForum.NET v4.1.3. This release ensures InstantForum.NET is fully compatible with the recent final releases of the Microsoft .NET v2.0.50727 framework, Visual Studio.NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005. Although InstantForum.NET v4.1.2 was tested and worked with Visual Studio.NET 2005 Beta 2, SQL Server 2005 CTP & the early Microsoft .NET v2.0.50215 framework, a few issues where discovered with page postbacks with the final RTM release of the Microsoft .NET v2.0 framework and InstantForum.NET v4.1.2. The InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 release addresses these postback issues. No new features have been introduced with this release. A number of small bugs have been resolved and some separation of the CSS & JavaScript files has occurred to move inline with our forthcoming InstantKB.NET v2.0 release. We have not introduced any ASP.NET v2.0 specific features with this release. InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 will continue to run on the v1.1 .NET framework as well as supporting the v2.0.50215 and v2.0.50727 .NET frameworks. We will be moving towards .NET v2.0 specific features (partial classes, membership provider, masterpages) with our InstantForum.NET v5.0 release expected next year. Our InstantKB.NET v2.0 release expected early next year will be our first offering to start taking advantage of ASP.NET v2.0 specific features. Upgrade instructions can be found within our online documentation at http://docs.instantasp.com/InstantForum/default.html?page=v412tov413guide.html The instructions are also available within our downloadable product documentation available at http://downloads.instantasp.co.uk/InstantForum/UserGuide.zip InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 is a free update for all existing v4.x customers. Opening InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 within Visual Studio.NET 2005 RTM As InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 is still provided as a ASP.NET v1.1, Visual Studio.NET 2003 solution you will need to first convert the various InstantForum.NET projects to Visual Studio.NET 2005. Luckily Visual Studio.NET makes this very simple. Once you've installed InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 simply double click the solution file within the root of the installation. This should open InstantForum.NET within Visual Studio.NET 2005. You will be presented with a simple conversion wizard as shown below...
Click "Next", you will now be prompted if you wish to make a backup of the original projects. Choose Yes or No depending on if you wish to create a backup before converting. In our example we've selected No as shown below...
Again click "Next", Visual Studio.NET will display a summary of the projects it will convert as part of the solution. This is shown below...
Now click "Finish". Visual Studio.NET 2005 will now convert the various Visual Studio.NET 2003 projects to Visual Studio.NET 2005. Once complete you will be presented with the screen shown below. Here you can choose to show any conversion errors. For this example we'll choose not to display the conversion log by un-ticking the checkbox...
Click "Close". InstantForum.NET will now open within Visual Studio.NET 2005. You will now need to set the detault start up project and start up ASPX file. This is very simply. Right click the InstantForum413 web application project and select "Set as Start-Up Project" from the context menu as shown below...
You will now need to set "Default.aspx" as the default start page. Within the InstantForum413 project locate Default.aspx within the root and Right Click the file, select "Set as Start Page" from the context menu. This is shown below...
This will ensure when you compile the solution Visual Studio.NET opens InstantForum.NET via the web application on the homepage and not the class library projects. You can now compile and build the solution within Visual Studio.NET 2005. Hit CTRL+F5 to build and open the startup project. If everything was successfull you should be presented with InstantForum.NET v4.1.3 running on the .NET v2.0.50727 & SQL Server 2005 within Visual Studio.NET 2005 as shown below...
