| Hi Guys, I have a couple of requests in regards to Usernames 1) Ability for Admin to have a customizable list of "reserved names" such as "Administrator", "Moderator", etc or names with profanity in them. In short, if a new user registers with one of the reserved names, it will force them to change it the same way as if a username has already been taken. 2) Admin to have a global option to enable or disable the ability to change usernames. I had to hide the Username and Textbox in the CP so they can't make changes to it. The problem with that, of course, is that Admins can't make changes either

| Hi Scott, I am forwarding your suggestion of having a list of reserved usernames to Ryan for consideration. As for Admins not being able to change usernames, the admin can change the user name to whatever he wants. If you go to "Edit Profile" in the Manage Members section of the Admin CP, you can update any user's username that you want. Also, when you approve users, you can decide whether that user can have a username or not. Setting the visible of the change username field to false, as you have done, solves the problem of them changing it back. The reserved username list is a good idea, however, and I have sent this suggestion to Ryan for consideration.
 Kindest Regards,
John Tabor

While I totally agree this is a good function to add I can honestly say that in over 5 years of having a forum on my site I have never (to the best of my knowledge) had someone sign up with an obviously misleading (admin, administrator, moderator, webmaster) name. Guess Ive either been lucky or more likely they know it will get them deleted so fast it wouldnt be amusing.

| Hi Mark. Yea I'd say you've been lucky. I used to have another forum and some users would create usernames that make it seem they belong to the site's staff. I'd just hate to track what usernames are being used by new registrants...just one way to save time.

Great suggestions Scott, Reserved names will be added to the list Ryan, might I suggest if you're going to do this then make it so you can use wildcards and such when listing the forbidden names. That you way you could do *administrator to keep someone from registering anything with the word administrator in it and thus cut down the amount of names you might have to list. Just a suggestion.

Hello Ryan, can you tell us about the state of this request? We are also waiting for this feature to prevent users from using misleading or impure names.Harry
