SQL Server 2008 Support + Full Text Search With InstantKB

I don't see any posts so far on upgrades to SQL Server 2008... I was searching for support mainly with the setup of full-text searching, but now I'm wondering if there are any compatibility issues that anyone has encountered?
InstantKB Question

Hi there,

I am using SQL 2008 (both locally and in the hosted environment) and everything is working well

Hope this helps!

Craig

Awesome - have you implemented full-text searching, and is it the same as it was for 2005?

Hiya

I have set up full text search on 2008 on my own side of my web app, but have not looked into the forum side.  However the technology behind the 2005 and 2008 versions is not going to fundamentally change so I can't see any issues

Sorry I can't be more helpful, my site hasn't gone live as yet!

Cheers
Craig

Hi Christy,

Hope your very well. Great question. Full-text search within both SQL Server 2005 & 2008 will work fine with InstantForum.NET 2010. You'll need to ensure your database is enabled for full text by executing the following command...

sp_fulltext_database 'enable'

Then add full-text indexes on the following columns...

InstantASP_Tabs.TagKeyword
InstantASP_Tags.TagKeywordEncoded
InstantForum_Messages.Message
InstantForum_Topics.Title
InstantForum_Topics.Description

Then in your Admin CP ensure either "ContainsTable" or "FullTextTable" is selected as the "Search Method" on the Forum settings page. With SQL Server 2005 & 2008 you can use automated change tracking to keep your index upto date.

I hope this helps Christy. Please don't hesitate to respond if we can assist further,

Thanks very much - should have specified that it is InstantKB that I am working with, and not the forum.  I assume compatibility is the same - it is a big assumption to present to our large Business team though :)

Ah yes InstantKB.NET will also work fine with SQL Server 2005 & 2008.

You can find a little more information on full-text for InstantKB.NET at...

Hope this helps :)

Very good!  Enjoying your app so far, minus a few typos here and there that do tend to bother me.

Off topic of this thread - there is a TaskID referenced in the Who's On table that is puzzling me - I don't see those enumerated values anywhere in the db.  If there is an answer to that in the forum already, I'd love a link.

Cheers -

Christy
