Can't Search in Attachments, Tags, Comments within InstantKB

InstantKB Problem
I bought InstantKB. In your advertisement page, I saw that InstantKB can search full-text. I configured full-text search for SQL 2008 as your instruction page. But I can't search in attachments, tags, comments with any search type in InstantKB?.

InstantKB Problem

Me too. I have InstantKB2011 version.

It can search word 2003 document on SQL 2005 & 2008, but not Office 2007 files on instantKB 2011.

After testing I found search 2007 file will work if the data type is varbinary (max)... waiting for response

Hi Kevin / Maofish,

I'm a little confused now :) In your ticket you say Office 2010 files are not being displayed within search results and you say 2007 files are working. In this post you say Office 2007 files are not working.

I'm looking the issue you report with Office 2010 or .docx files in your ticket however as  this appears to work well with Office 2007 or .doc documents providing the Office 2007 Filter pack is installed and registered correctly within SQL Server. I only tested 2007 .doc as i don't have 2003 here.

Thank you for your response via the ticket Kevin. I've installed the Office 2010 Filter Pack here and will be testing further. I'll respond via your ticket. If the information will help others i'll also post here.

If i can assist further in the meantime please don't hesitate to respond,

I bought InstantKB 2.0. In your advertisement page, I saw that InstantKB20 can search full-text. I configured full-text search for SQL 2008 as your instruction page. But I can't search in attachments, tags, comments with any search type in your InstantKB20.

If you've not done so already can you please open a support ticket. We'll certainly assist further,

Hi, Ryan

I installed office 2010 filter pack for SQL 2005 server (32bit).

.doc is default word document type for office 2003

.docx is default word document extension for office 2007 & 2010 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office_2007_filename_extensions

" I only tested 2007 .doc as i don't have 2003 here. "

Full-text index for .doc word document is support by default SQL 2005.

.doc - Do you mean you create a word document in office 2007 and save as .doc file, not .docx?

My futher testing: create a sample test.docx file insert into InstantKB_Attachments via TSQL (code below), full-text index the document with no problem, but I upload same document via InstantKB edit articale, the document is not indexed................................well, let me know your thought

INSERT INTO [InstantKB_Attachments] ([UserID],[RelatedEntityID],[AttachmentType],[FileName]

,[DisplayFileName],[ContentLength],[ContentType],[AttachmentBLOB]

)

SELECT

1, --user id

50001, --artical id

1,

'text.docx',

'text.docx',

10924,

'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.word',

*

FROM OPENROWSET(BULK N'c:\test.docx', SINGLE_BLOB) a

SELECT *

FROM [InstantKB].[dbo].[InstantKB_Attachments]

WHERE CONTAINS([AttachmentBLOB], 'coffee'); --text.docx contains coffee keyword

Hi, Ryan

The datalength for upload file is 1 more than actual content lenght.

You can query from follow tsql statement

SELECT

filename,

[DATALENGTH]
= DATALENGTH([AttachmentBLOB]),

[ContentLength],

,

[ContentType]

FROM [InstantKB].[dbo].[InstantKB_Attachments]

I feel that why full-text index can't index on AttachmentBlob field.

Hi Kevin,

Hope your very well. Thank you for your response. I just wanted to confirm I've been investigating this and i'm hoping to have some suggestions with you today to help resolve. I'll respond via the ticketing system. If the information will help others I'll pop a response here also.

Current update from Client:

All office 2003 files are searchable, but not office 2007 files. Pending for fix.......................................................................................

It is better to convert to office 2003 file like .doc, .xls before attach to a article on InstantKB.

Hi,

Thank you for your post. Hope your well.

We are aware of Office 2007 files not appearing within search results. We have taken stops to resolve this for the next 2011-3 update and introduced a new way to upload files to resolve this problem.

We have also reworked the byte encoding to ensure 2007 open xml documents are converted correctly. If you wish to email me on ryan@instantasp.co.uk I'll ensure we send you the uprated files once ready.
