Edit the InstantForum ViewForumGroups contro

InstantForum Question
Hello,

I am trying to edit the InstantForum:ViewForumGroups control to remove the topics, post, and last post column or redirect clicks in the case of a redirect forum.

I cannot find what page controls this. I was able to edit the default.ascx page to hide the key and forum activity controls.

Any help is appreciated as i need to complete this for a business proposal.

Thanks,
Max
InstantForum Question

Hi Max,

I hope your very well. Welcome to our forum :)

Great question. Thankfully quite easy to do.

You will need to navigate to your InstantForum.NET installation and open Skins{YourSkinName}\Default.ascx within NotePad or Visual Studio.

Locate the ViewForumGroups control as shown below...

<InstantForum:ViewForumGroups id="ctlViewForumGroups"
AllowHeaderLinks="True" runat="Server"/>

Update this to read...

<InstantForum:ViewForumGroups id="ctlViewForumGroups"
Columns="Name" AllowHeaderLinks="True" runat="Server"/>

The default value for the columns property is "Icon,Name,Topics,Posts,LastPost". You can hide columns that are displayed by simply excluding them from the comma delimited list within the columns property of the ViewForumGroups control.

I hope this helps Max. Please don't hesitate to respond if we can assist further,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks for the quick response. However this seems not to work on my installation.

<div class="contentHomeMain" id="pnlContentMain" runat="Server">

<InstantForum:ViewForumGroups id="ctlViewForumGroups" Column="Name" AllowHeaderLinks="True" runat="Server" />

<InstantForum:ForumOptions runat="Server"/>

<InstantForum:ForumActivity id="ctlForumActivity" UseWebService="true" EnableIcons="true" runat="Server" Visible="False" />

<InstantForum:ForumKey runat="Server" Visible="False" />

</div>

I am still seeing the regular view.

Thanks,

Any update on this ?

I was able to make the whole control disappear with Visible="false" but Column="Name" doesnt seem to affect it.

Thanks,

Hi Max,

I'm sorry for my delay. Please never hesitate to email me directly on ryan@instantasp.co.uk if you don't receive a prompt response here. With regards to the original problem I can confirm this change will work in InstantForum.NET 2012 or 2010.

Are you possibly using an earlier version, maybe 4.1.4? You should be able to see the exact version number in the footer of the forum.

For InstantForum.NET 4.1..4

If your using 4.1.4. you will need to hide the columns you don't want to display within the Skins\{YourSkinName}\Controls\ViewForumGroups.ascx file.

You would need to add a Visible="false" to each InstantASP:TemplateColumn control.

For example to hide the small icon...

<InstantASP:TemplateColumn Visible="false" Itemstyle-CssClass="TableCell_Dark"
ItemStyle-Width="3%" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center"
HeaderText="Space" HeaderStyle-CssClass="PanelBar_SubHeader">
<ItemTemplate><InstantASP:Image id="imgForumIcon" runat="Server"/></ItemTemplate>
</InstantASP:TemplateColumn>

For InstantForum.NET 2010 and 2012 the first suggestion should work. I've tested here today and got the expected behavior.

Please don't hesitate to respond if we can assist further.
