Sorry I missed this. I hope your well. Just a quick update for you and maybe others that may be interested.
InstantForum 2016-3 will be released as a beta next week. I would anticipate a few weeks after beta for the final 2016-3 update so late August. I'm afraid 2016-3 does not introduce any kind of media or image gallery functionality however it does introduce several other highly requested features.Merging Topics
Moderators can now merge two or more topics into a single existing or new topic.
After you select the topics you wish to merge you'll be presented with a pop-up with further options...
It's not quite clear from this screen grab but you can of course also simply enter a topic ID to merge the selected topics into. For example maybe the topic exists within a different forum.Splitting Replies
Moderators can now split replies off into existing or new topics.
After you select the replies you would like to split the following pop-up helps you customize this further...Soft Deletes
Moderators can now also soft delete topics or replies and provide a customizable reasons for the removal with optional email or PM notification to the post author.
Once you've selected the posts to delete the following pop-up appears with additional options...
Soft delete allows you to keep the post but hide this from regular users without having to place the post or topic back into the moderation queue. It's also helpful to allow the post author to edit and submit the post back to the moderation queue for approval. As a moderator you can see soft deleted posts like so...
You can also optionally choose to show soft deleted posts to regular end users and of course undo the delete if you wish to make the post live again.
These are really the main new features for the next update. We've also added several smaller new features like the ability to set edit & delete windows for posts - so users can't for example edit a post 1 year after it was created. 2016-3 also improves many other areas (improvements to the editor, CSS, responsive design etc) and addresses around 2 dozen bugs discovered since our 2016-2 updateInstantForum 2017?
InstantForum 2017 will be a significant update. We do have a few new features & improvements planned for this release. The InstantForum 2017 update will also continue to focus on preparing our code and features to ease the migration over to the new ASP.NET core run time.
This will likely be the last major ASP.NET 4.x release before the full move to ASP.NET core. We will of course continue to support & release updates for the current ASP.NET 4.x version however our primary focus next year will likely be in developing the newer ASP.NET core version of InstantForum . We'll be using this opportunity to take everything we've learnt over the years and all the feedback we've received and applying this to the ASP.NET core version. We've actually already made a start on our ASP.NET core version but it's really to early to share anything at the moment. Of course we will provide a simple migration path to help our customers who do want to move from the current ASP.NET 4.x release to the ASP.NET core release. We'll be developing our .NET core version with a similar feature set you all of your current InstantForum data will of course carry over.
I hope this offers a quick update and a sense of were things are going Eddy. We are never done with InstantForum and we still have so many things we'd love to add (media gallery *cough*). The main problem I have is trying to understand what our customers want first and what would deliver the most value to the majority of out customers. This is part of the reason for my poll here. Improving the moderation tools offered by InstantForum has been a common request I've seen recently via email and on our support tickets so this was addressed in this update.
A media and / or image gallery is also a highly requested feature but obviously something that would take a little more time. I can't make any promises Eddy but I'll see what we can do for the 2017 update.
If I can assist further or address any concerns of course please don't hesitate to respond here :)
